5 natural ways to make your house smell fresh!

There are times, when i need some fresh fragrance around the house especially after cooking a large meal for friends over the weekend. Sometimes, burning a steak in the oven or using indian spices a bit too much can make sure that your neighbours know what is cooking inside the house. I love using scented candles every now and then, they not only help making the house more welcoming but also help me relax a lot, my favourite fragrances are vanilla and coffee. I also love using fresh flowers in the house, you will always find a bouquet or two lying in the vases around the corners, they not only make the house fresh but also so colourful. I do not use too many air freshers to scent the house coz of the toxins that they carry, plus i and kids get so many allergies from them.

Today i am mentioning a few tricks that i have learnt over time to induce aroma around the house naturally!

5 natural ways to make your house smell fresh!
1. Simmer pots- Simmering pots are a wonderful way to make your house smell fresh and inviting. Just take a pot and add your favourite ingredients and simmer them for a while until your house is full of sweet aroma. Fill a pot with water and add your ingredients and simmer away, yes it's as simple as that! You can experiment with different ingredients to find your favourite aromas, and this can also work according to the seasons. For me, i love the citrus scent around the house during summers, so i simmer lemon and cucumber slices with some cloves and mint sprigs for all the freshness. During winters apple peels, cinnamon sticks and bay leaves do the trick for me. Just make sure you keep the water up during the simmering process, try refilling every half an hour so, you don't want a burning pot.

2. Custom Potpourri- Potpourri is not for outdated shops and work places anymore. The moment you customise yours, it becomes a superb go to for making your home even more welcoming. Its unbelievable how dry blooms keep their scents, so do not throw away those as yet, just freshen them up with some essential oils and it'll do the trick (just make sure the flowers are completely dry- it takes a couple of weeks- you can try hanging them upside down, that speeds up the process). Add a couple of drops of essential oil to the dried flowers, and leave them in an air tight container for a day or so. Arrange them in your favourite bowl the next day with some trinkets of your choice.

3. Air purifying plants- Another thing that might help in putting that freshness back into your house is clean air. There are many houseplants that help you do that. Palms, peace lilies, ferns etc are great choices to replace impure air with more oxygen and freshness. Not to mention, that they make any corner of the house more lived up and beautiful. This will give you more details on such plants.

4. Tea Bags for small spaces- If those small spaces in your home need some livening up, try using tea bags- put them in a bowl or hang them at the back of the door. Try using these in places like your store room, laundry room, bathroom or in those musty closets. A very inexpensive, yet a very aromatic fragrance option.

5. Herb Bags- Get some small cotton or muslin bags and fill them with your favourite dried herbs, spices or flowers and place them in drawers, your potpourri, closets and other corners around the house. This is a great alternative to buying those scent diffusers.
