5 American Cities for Romance

By Ripleydaniels @mikesobol

Today people are so busy with high tech and high stress jobs and careers that romance may be the last thing many people have time to think about. However, the importance of romance has not diminished, if anything, it is more important today than ever. With so many more people connecting on social media and the internet creating a world where limitations in finding partners are quickly being erased, the problem today is keeping those partners. To help keep romance alive, we offer the following list of favorite cities for romantic getaways to help keep the flame strong, and bring balance back to our busy lives.

San Antonio, Texas

San Antonio is where you will find the underground Riverwalk, a destination which, by it’s very nature, could not be more suited to a romantic getaway. Resting one story below the streets of downtown, the Riverwalk stretches from the Alamo to the Rivercenter Mall. Shops, bars and restaurants line both sides or the underground river, and if strolling along in the perpetual nighttime underground alongside the river or floating or paddling a small boat does not bring out the romantic inside you, you are in need of some serious help.

New Orleans, Louisiana

The Big Easy is like having a slice of Paris right here in our own backyard. With this city’s French-Creole architecture, multi-lingual culture, and wildly varied cuisine, there is something for everyone. Considered the birthplace of jazz, the music scene in New Orleans is as contemporary as it is multi-faceted. Surrounded by lakes and rivers, and steeped in history and culture, this city has been called America’s most unique. If the concerts, festivals and cajun delicacies do not get your motor running, perhaps the nightlife of the French Quarter and Bourbon Street will. Need I mention Mardi Gras?

Santa Fe, New Mexico

This is another deeply historic city, with roots as far back as 1610, when the San Miguel Chapel was built. Santa Fe’s streets radiate outward from a central plaza reflecting the vision of it’s original planners. With it’s stunning sunsets, spicy food, and quaint adobe churches and pueblos, Santa Fe will take one back to a simpler, more relaxed state of mind. The cuisine alone is worth the trip and the infusion of ancient cultures and historical structures is ample fodder for taking away cares and concerns of the modern world for a peaceful and refreshing getaway.

San Francisco, California

California is a dream destination for many reasons, and San Francisco is one of this laid back state’s feature attractions. With it’s cable cars, ocean views, and rich history, this city has so many things to see and do that one visit may not be enough. The Golden Gate Bridge is a must see, and Chinatown is like visiting another country without needing a passport. It’s no wonder some of the most popular romance writers in the country hail from this city. Each valley in the city has it’s own personality, and the selection of shopping and eateries is sure to provide every couple with ample opportunities to explore new horizons.

Honolulu, Hawaii

While this city may not be within the financial grasp of many couples’ budgets, any list of romantic getaways would be remiss to leave Honolulu out of consideration. Perhaps the most relaxing American city, if Honolulu can’t take your mind off your troubles, no city can. This jewel of a tropical paradise has a beach for every day of the week, and if hot beaches and gorgeous ocean views are your idea of the perfect getaway, start saving those pennies for the ultimate beach experience of a lifetime. Oh, and you will need to eat sometime, so when you do drag yourself away from the sand, Honolulu boasts some of the finest French and Asian-Fusion cuisine in the world.

Romance need not be dead in the modern world, it just takes a little effort and some imagination to bring the fire back into your love life. The payoff is well worth the effort, and you and your mate will be better people in your everyday lives when happiness at home includes some much needed romance.
