Samsung has just acknowledged the battery issue
Samsung is committed to producing the highest quality products and we take every incident report from our valued customers very seriously. In response to recently reported cases of the new Galaxy Note7, we conducted a thorough investigation and found a battery cell issue.
To date (as of September 1) there have been 35 cases that have been reported globally and we are currently conducting a thorough inspection with our suppliers to identify possible affected batteries in the market. However, because our customers’ safety is an absolute priority at Samsung, we have delayed sales of the Galaxy Note7 in India.
We acknowledge the inconvenience this may cause in the market but this is to ensure that Samsung continues to deliver the highest quality products to our customers.
It is not really a great news for Samsung as the most anticipated Android phone of the year, the Galaxy Note 7 seems to have hit rough waters soon after the launch. After initial reports of delayed shipments, Samsung is recalling around 400,000 Note 7 units sold in South Korea.
While Samsung had previously stated that few more quality tests are being performed causing the delay in deliveries, however, it has now halted shipments to local telcos on Wednesday following multiple reports of the exploding batteries in both Korea and abroad.

Confusion reigns among the customers as it is yet undecided whether it will recall all Note 7 handsets sold or only the ones it deems affected by the defective parts.
If reports are to be believed, Samsung will not offer a refund instead the recalled phones will be returned with new batteries.
For consumers abroad, including the US, the company will offer new batteries only to the phones that used the defective batteries.
The timing of this incident is very crucial as iPhone 7 is about to be launched and success of the Galaxy Note 7 is crucial for it to continue the momentum created by the strong Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge sales.
