4 Things You Can Be Doing Instead of Micromanaging Your Drivers

Posted on the 10 April 2013 by Fleetmatics @fleetmatics

Fleet owners and managers, we know that you have a million things to do every day. If you already have fleet tracking, you know how much time and money is saved by having a system in place. If you don’t have a fleet tracking system already…how do you have the time to be calling around and trying to locate all your drivers?! If you are running (or helping to run) a small business, you simply do not have the time to be inefficiently managing your fleet. Fleetmatics fleet tracking can help you free up time so that you can spend more time on improving your business in other ways.

Here are 4 things you can do with your free time once you have fleet tracking:

  1. Check on your competition. Now that you have some time on your hands, take an hour and do an audit of what’s going on with the competition. Look at websites, social media channels, and the news for your biggest competitors. You should know what is being offered by other companies and make sure your services are comparable. When you are always scrambling to get your fleet vehicles under control, sometimes your competitors can sneak up on you. Fleetmatics helps give you a leg up on the competition already, but knowing what else is out there is also important to staying ahead of the competition.
  2. Recruit new talent. Perhaps in the past you have been distracted when hiring new employees. The danger in this is that you may not be hiring the best and most trustworthy drivers for your business. Now that fleet tracking is helping you save time, you can spend more time interviewing and making sure that new employees are a good fit for the company. Fleetmatics does help identify drivers who abuse your vehicles, but hiring quality employees in the first place saves your company money and headaches.
  3. Work on your social media strategy. Your customers are most likely on social media channels. Take some time every day to check what people are saying about the industry and your company specifically on social channels. Reading public customer feedback gives you a good idea of where you can improve- customer service, response times, etc. It is also nice when customers are asking questions about you and your product on social channels and you can be the one to respond to them.
  4. Catch up on your favorite Netflix show. Well, hopefully fleet tracking doesn’t make it so you have nothing better to do than to watch tv at work. But maybe on a slow day you can kick back, run Live Fleet on one monitor, and fire up Netflix instant play on your second monitor. Breaking Bad isn’t going to watch itself and you need to catch up before the next season premiere!
