"Love, Rosie", also known as "Where Rainbows End" is a book by the author Cecelia Ahern. When I first heard this book was being adapted into a film {featuring Lily Collins and Sam Claflin, cannot wait} I knew I had to read the book as soon as could. But a part of me forgot about the book and over the past few months took to reading the Shatter Me and Divergent series. However, yesterday I decided I would actually make this my first book of 2014.
The book is about two childhood friends Rosie and Alex, both of whom have been best friends since they were five years old. The story flies through almost five decades, starting with the two in primary, ending in their fifties. After their childhood, the next chapters take a look at Rosie and Alex around the age of teenagers, when Alex's family up route and leave behind their life is Dublin for a job in Boston.This see's the two best friends take on immediate changes in the lives as Rosie decides to apply to college in Boston to be closer to Alex, however, at seventeen Rosie finds herself pregnant. Therefore, she quits her idea of moving to America and has her baby Katie.
The story goes through their adult lives, seeing them both marry separate people, with new additions to their families. After a lot of trouble on both sides of their marriages, Rosie decides to go through with her original plans to move to Boston and take Katie to join her best friend and his son. However, that's when fate steps in the way and a person from Rosie's past and Katie's future prevents her from moving.
The book is set in such a unique way, with absolutely no narration until the epilogue. As the book is written through a series of letters, IM's and emailing. This turned me off when I opened the book today as I wasn't keen on the set out of it, but it was more than easy to follow and I actually came to the conclusion I didn't mind how it was written. You never get to read a piece where they're both together and usually they're writing to each other from across the globe. But there are many other characters also involved in this story, it's quite brilliant to see them all come together.
"Love, Rosie" is by far the most infuriating book I have ever read in my entire life, if you have or if you plan on reading it you will know why. It's one of these books where you know in the end what will happen, but you are still anticipating right up until the end whether your theory comes true or not.
I actually really loved this book and cannot wait until the film adaptation that comes out later on this year turns out. I just want to point out that I have read probably over eighty books in my life and I just wanted to point out that this is most definitely not my first. When I get my book back that I borrowed from my friend I will do a top five books of 2013. This is the first of many book reviews on this blog.
