A 101-year-old Virginia woman was shot and wounded as she tried to break up a family dispute, authorities and a neighbor said Monday.Now, you know how I hate to generalize, it's completely clear to me that any single incident cannot be considered characteristic of a particular state. Yet, when those single incidents become frequent enough, as with Arizona and Florida, it is reasonable to draw certain conclusions.
The woman, who was not identified, was struck in the neck and taken to a hospital after the shooting, which occurred over the weekend in Richmond, police there said.
Michael Haskell, a longtime friend of the woman’s, said a gun went off as she tried to intervene in the dispute. He said the woman was in stable condition after successful surgery.
Police said they were called at about midnight Saturday to a house for a reported shooting. They said investigators have determined that two of the woman’s grandsons were arguing over money, and that they began shooting at each other.
Virginia is one of those states. There are too many guns, too many unqualified people with guns, there is too much 2nd Amendment pseudo-patriotism and when they start shooting their centenarian grandmothers, I cannot remain silent any longer.
