Diet in the Off-Season

Lomachenko appears to eat very ‘clean’ during training but what does he eat when he’s not preparing for a fight?

The champion boxer says he let himself relax ‘a little bit’ when he isn’t training in the lead up to a fight. He may treat himself to a cheesecake (or a slice of one) and even a hamburger. He adds that he doesn’t waver much from his fight-camp diet however, as being an athlete is a 24-7-365 job.

Lomachenko’s Fight IQ

Lomachenko is known for having a unique training regime that is specifically designed to improve his decision making abilities in the ring.

If you wish to optimise your diet, in order to amplify the impact of this specific type of training, then look to include foods such as blueberries, turmeric, lion’s mane mushroom and even salmon eggs.

Mushrooms, such as lions mane & reishi may protect the brain by producing new neurons – or at least helping in the process of developing new neaurons/brain cells. One study on this can be found here for reishi mushrooms & here is a study about Lion’s Mane Mushrooms effect on the brain.

Avoid alcohol and consider adding turmeric to foods you consume after sparring and competing.

Turmeric & curcumin (a component of turmeric) have been shown to reduce ‘amyloid plaque formation’. You can read more about turmeric’s effects on the brain in this academic paper.
