With our Country's rich history from the Colonial Spaniards up to the Martial Law era under the Marcos administration, there has been a lot of unnamed, unsung, or even unwritten histories of great People who have done some great works and contributions for our liberation, freedom, and the democracy that we now enjoy. Leandro "Lean" Legara Alejandro is but one of them (or at least for me) whom I have only heard about just recently.
From the short information from Wikipedia, Lean was an activist in the 1980s, a student leader, nationalist, intellectual rebel, and a critic of then President Ferdinand Marcos who played various key roles in the formation of different national organizations. With those roles that he held, he was assassinated on September 19, 1987 after announced his plans for a major demonstration against the Marcos regime.
Honouring the life of Lean Alejandro, the UP SAMASA Alumni Association will be holding an obstacle run reminiscing the dictatorial rule that will give runners a taste of what it was like during the Martial law years. Obstacle at the UP sunken garden and Academic oval will feature barbed wire, water cannons, anti-riot police, arbitrary arrests and much more. Runners will aim to survive the challenges of the course for a chance to win prizes, not to mention unique bragging rights.
