a $25 gift card to The Container Store

We're giving away signed copies of Home Sweet Homes: How Bundt Cakes, Bubble Wrap, and My Accent Helped Me Survive Nine Moves and $25 gift cards to The Container Store in September. How can you win? Simply send us photo evidence that you have learned how to "Roll With It!"

What do you mean, "Roll With It?"

You know what I'm talking about: When things just couldn't go more wrong and you have to muster up every inspirational saying you've ever seen on Facebook to keep a smile pasted on your face and a sense of humor in your heart. It might take a jumbo sized Calgon and a case of wine, but we Roll With It, right?

It's what gets us through tough times by seeing the humor in life's craziness.

You've probably seen the picture of the kids who thought it would be helpful to open a can of ceiling white and paint the living room, baby brother and all. The mom who snapped that picture was rolling with it. As were all the folks who videotaped their dogs' sorry expressions after discovering garbage strewn all over the house.

They're our heroes.

We've all been there.

Perhaps you've moved and two weeks later still can't find any of your pots and pans, so you make another meal of Pop Tarts and leftover Halloween candy. Or perhaps you don't understand the concept of leftover Halloween candy and you don't care.

Maybe your sink gets stopped up, with your daughter's wedding rehearsal dinner in your home, one day away. Pinterest had instructions for party favors made out of empty Drano bottles, didn't it?

Or your kids arrive home from camp with piles of laundry, and your washer just danced the shimmy across the floor, disconnecting the hose and sending next month's water bill splashing through your laundry room. No problem. Thank your lucky stars there's a Law and Order mini-marathon on this weekend.

Or it's your first day at a new job and your first-grader gets strep throat, an ear infection and lice. Is that a Moscow Mule in your thermos?

If you're smiling and the kids are still alive, you're rolling with it.

Now about that contest . . .

We're hoping you took the time to snap a selfie the last time you had to muster up the sense of humor to Roll With It. We want to see them!

From Sept. 1 through Sept. 20, 2015, email us a digital photo - preferably one that will make us laugh, 'cuz you know how we love to laugh - and you'll be entered in our Roll With It contest. You could win a signed copy of Home Sweet Homes: How Bundt Cakes, Bubble Wrap, and My Accent Helped Me Survive Nine Moves, and a $25 gift card to The Container Store.

Here's how it works

Photos should be emailed to: info@HomeSweetHomesBook.com by or before Sept. 20, 2015.

Along with your digital photo, include:

  • Your full name
  • Your email address
  • Your mailing address
  • A description of what is happening in the photo or the circumstances in which you had to "roll with it" to get through tough times.

Photo may be recently shot or an old photo.

Photo must be clear enough to be posted and used in promos. Before taking photo, breathe on your camera lens and give it a wipe with a soft cloth. Don't forget to focus!

Contestants may feel free to stage photos in the spirit of creativity. By all means, be creative. We love creativity.

Each photo must include a brief story about what is happening in the photo. Feel free to vent the backstory. We're here for you.

Pictures must be G or PG rated, based on the totally arbitrary opinion of Diane herself, which means no full-frontal nudity of anyone over 9-months-old. Liquor and cigarette logos may be shown on clothing; in fact, they are encouraged.

By submitting a picture, contestants give permission to have it posted on the Home Sweet Homes Facebook page and/or used in other social media, and other promotional purposes, at Diane's discretion. Contestants waive all rights to photos.

Contestants' first and last names and home cities will be published. Email addresses and mailing addresses will be kept private.

Contestants will automatically be signed up for Diane's monthly newsletter, from which they can unsubscribe at any time.

Contestants may enter as many times as they like. Prizes will go to three different people, and one person cannot win more than once, regardless of how many entries he/she submits.

Three winners will be randomly selected.

Winners will each receive a signed copy of Home Sweet Homes and a $25 gift card to The Container Store. If the winner absolutely hates The Container Store and would like a $25 gift card to another place whose gift cards are within walking distance of Diane, he/she may request that. But she strongly encourages you to reconsider. The Container Store is awesome.

Questions and clarifications may be submitted to info@homesweethomesbook.com.
