One Secret to Consider When You Can’t Lose Weight

By Pamela Brown

Are you trying to drop back to a comfortable weight so that you can wear your clothes, AND be able to breathe?  Have you been struggling to lose weight for a while and nothing’s working?

If you have been trying to cut calories and/or exercise more to boost metabolism, you are possibly making your situation worse.  Boosting metabolism isn’t just about exercise and nutrition; anything that stress your body, mind, or spirit can negatively affect  your weight.

Increased stress=decreased metabolism.  So what can you do to make sure your metabolism is always churning?

Become aware of your level of satisfaction in EVERY area of life.  How satisfied are you in Life as a whole?  This is important to know because your weight depends on your Life satisfaction.

Increased satisfaction=Increased Weight Loss

Before you can increase satisfaction in each area of life, become aware of your level of satisfaction.  Follow the steps below.

1.  Consider the various areas of your life.

  • personal growth/ self-improvement: Do you invest enough time in your own personal development and growth, including spiritual development?
  • friends: Do you have enough friends, and close enough close friends to meet your needs?
  • career: How fulfilling is your career?  Is it a good fit for you?
  • financial: Describe the stress around money and your relationship to it (stable, frustrating, etc…)
  • recreation/ fun: Do you invest enough time, energy, and money to have fun?  Do you allow enough time to re-vitalize and re-energize yourself?
  • family relationships: How fulfilling is your relationships with your family?  Level of closeness or support?
  • health and wellness: Your health status and any challenges you are currently facing.
  • significant others/romance:  Are your needs getting met in this area?
  • environment: How satisfied are with your workplace, neighborhood, home, and surrounding landscape in where you live? Does it enhance or challenge your quality of life?

2.  In each area, on a scale of 1-10 (1=least, 10=most), how motivated are you to change or develop this area of life?

3.  Pick 1-2 areas where you are the least satisfied, and pick the area you  are most motivated to change.

4.  For the area you choose to focus on, what is one small action you can make this week either to find out what you could do to develop this area, or to make a small change?

An optimal score in each area is around an 8.  5 or below deserves attention.

In Summary

Until you increase satisfaction in the areas of life that you score low, if will become harder for you to lose weight and keep it off.  Make changes to your life where you are least happy, and you will get closer to your dream weight.

What changes do you need to make so that you can reach your ideal weight?
