On The Brink

The Red Sox locked up a playoff berth last night at Fenway, as John Lackey was simply brilliant, and the Red Sox went on to a 3-1 victory over Baltimore.
It was arguably Lackey's best game ever in a Red Sox uniform. He pitched a complete game, two-hitter, and had a no-hitter into the seventh inning, went it was broken up by Adam Jones' home run. Lackey continues to be a money pitcher, as the Sox' avoided a sweep at the hands of the Orioles.
Stephen Drew hit a two-run homer in the 2nd inning, and that was all the Sox needed.
The win officially put the Red Sox into the postseason. Tampa Bay's loss dropped the Magic Number for the AL East title at 1, and the Sox can wrap that up tonight with Jon Lester on the mound against the Blue Jays.
Last night's win gives the Sox 93 wins on the year, with 8 games remaining. This from a team that lost 93 in 2012. And they are a red-hot 12-5 in the month of September.
