When it comes to working out and/or practicing yoga, I'm definitely a homebody. I like to practice when I feel moved to do so (as opposed to studio or gym hours) and I don't need the structure of having a place outside of the house to practice, as I'm very self-motivated in this area of my life (others not so much, but that's a whole other post). I've lived in all sized abodes (humble and not so humble) and I've always managed to carve out space to practice (at one point in my life, that meant having to move the coffee table to the perimeter of the room just so I could extend my limbs).
While home practices have their benefits, they also have their challenges, depending upon your circumstances (size of space, traffic, animals who enjoy stepping on you when you are engaged in any posture that requires lying on your back [yes, I've experienced this one myself, and while I adored the doggie, his affection wasn't conducive to me actually focusing on my practice], noise level, etc.). If you're struggling to start or maintain a home practice, or if you'd like to invigorate the one you've already got, I recommend signing up for the Home Yoga Summit. It's free and all you need to participate is a computer.
The Home Yoga Summit begins tomorrow, March 19 (March 20th if you're on AEDT). You can find more information and a sign up form here. One of my favorite teachers, Mark Whitwell, is one of the contributors, so I'm all signed up and looking forward to mining some gems for maximizing my home practice.
Namaste!
