Daily Chase: Vol. 16

Living in a new place for the first time is all about change, especially during the first year. With the changing of the seasons and each passing week, new experiences abound. It’s amazing how many “normal” things you take for granted with you’ve been living in the same place for any period of time. Then you experience them for the first time, in a new way, in a new place, and suddenly you notice the differences. Those differences are certainly plentiful in “The First State”.

Chasing42 Log: 20160125 & 20160126

Run: Snowstorm Jonas continues to make running a more difficult endeavor. Yesterday, my off day #runstreak run was made simple with a few hill repeats out at Winterthur. Today, I decided I wanted a bit of a challenge and ran home from Winterthur. I’ve run this route numerous times before, but the added snow component made for a much for difficult run. It was more like snowshoeing without snowshoes and by the time I got home, I felt as though I had run twice as long!

Thought: The theme for the past few days seems to be snow removal incompetence. As a native Minnesotan, I grew up with rather high expectations for the city and Department of Transportation. Minnesotans know how to deal with snow, whether it’s the folks shoveling the sidewalks or the plow drivers getting out there in advance of the storm to prep the roads! The same cannot be said for the Wilmington area, or much of the rest of the east coast from what I can tell. I’ve never had to hurdle so many snow piles and slog through foot deep snow on sidewalks that should otherwise be clear running routes. I didn’t quite realize just how much I’d have to adjust my running routes to account for the winter snow chaos, but it’s all a learning process, right? I suppose #chasing42 will just be a bit more circuitous this winter :)
