A Fat Girl on a Mission

By Kittyfairy @KittyFairy

I know I said that I probably wouldn't blog much, but I'm on a mission. I have a Fat Girl Shopping List, and I am determined to fulfill it!!
Okay, so I should probably explain, but basically my boots have a hole in the bottom which is pretty rubbish for a pair that I've had barely a year, and only wear during the colder months. So, not wanting to spend the entire winter wearing my walking boots, I decided to invest in a pair of wellies, which look cute and keep the water away from my feet - hopefully - so I popped into Millets whilst in Chester recently, only to discover that they don't do wide calf ones.

The Plan:

So, this got me thinking. We're supposed to be still living on the highs of London 2012, encouraging people into sports and getting active. Now, I'm not a sporty person, never have been and never will be, but I do like walking so I've been a regular shopper at places like Millets for a long time, for stuff like boots. But, for a nation trying to encourage people to get healthy, why are there no high street shops that sell plus size outdoor clothes?? Generally walking boots seem to be fine, because even though I do naturally have wider feet, walking boots always seem to fit nicely, as long as I go a size up, which generally isn't a problem because I like wearing comfort insoles in walking boots that that's perfect for me.
But, what about rain coats? During the summer months, I have a Jack-in-a-Pack that is actually mens wear, which is kinda embarrassing, and in the winter, I wear a fashion coat with a hood which is fine, but sometimes I really would like a proper waterproof coat, that doesn't look like something my Nanna would wear.

The Mission:

My mission is to basically find outfits that fit larger ladies and are suitable for outdoor activities, especially walking. I'm talking rain jackets, rain coats, wellies and anything else that you might take on an walking trip. I'm going to stay open-minded about the actual items, because I'm curious to see what is out there.
Just to point out: I am not asking for free stuff. I just want to redeem my faith that there are actually retailers that want to help encourage larger women to be more active, because clothes-wise, I'm not currently see much of that.
I'm incredibly keen to help promote those companies, so that other women can find clothes that they need to enjoy the outdoors, because we live in such a beautiful country and how many of us are missing it?
So, do you - or a company you know of - sell outdoor items for plus size women?  If so, get in touch.  I'm also going to try and hunt some down, of course, to see what I can find.
Consider me a Fat Girl on a Plus Size Mission!!
