085: How to Ask About Experiences Working in Mandarin Chinese

Unfortunately, most of us have to work for someone else. So, how do you discuss your job with others, and find out what the terms and conditions are like—as well as the boss!

In this Podcast, you will learn:

(1) How to talk about your job and if it’s good or bad

(2) To discuss some of the terms and conditions of your position

Dialogue:

A:你的新工作怎么样?Nǐ de xīn gōngzuò zěnme yàng?

How’s your new job?

B:特别好!我特别喜欢!工资高不说,我老板人还特好!Tèbié hǎo! Wǒ tèbié xǐhuān! Gōngzī gāo bù shuō, wǒ lǎobǎn rén hái tè hǎo!

Quite good! I like it very much. Not only is the salary is high, but my boss is good.

A: 你原来在哪家公司来着?Nǐ yuánlái zài nǎ jiā gōngsī láizhe?

Where did you work previously?

B: 我原来在ABC 啊。Wǒ yuánlái zài ABC a.

I worked at ABC.

A: 哦,那儿怎么样啊?Ó, nà’er zěnme yàng a?

Oh, I see. How was it there?

B: 特别糟糕。工资低,老板人也挺差劲的,而且公司离我家还特别远。Tèbié zāogāo. Gōngzī dī, lǎobǎn rén yě tǐng chàjìng de, érqiě gōngsī lí wǒjiā hái tèbié yuǎn.

It was terrible. The salary was low, the boss was not very good and the company’s office is far away from my home.

A: 是么!你在那儿干了多久?Shì me! Nǐ zài nà’er gànle duōjiǔ?

Really. How long did you work there?

B: 我在那儿干了10个月。真是受够了!Wǒ zài nà’er gànle 10 gè yuè. Zhēnshi shòu gòule!

I worked there for 10 months. Long enough!
