Wine Wednesday: Chilean Red Blends

By Fitnspicy @fitnspicy

Last Wednesday we had a few friends over, built a nice big fire in our wood fire place upstairs and opened up 3 great wines from Chile to participate in a WineChat all about red blends from Chile. As one of my friends stated: These are Mellissa wines. Yes they are. Big, bold red blends. Especially since we are having unseasonably cold weather, something about comfort food like pot roast and panini’s goes so well with that glass of wine.

What we opened:

Montes Twins

50% Malbec and 50% Cabernet

We loved this wine, rich with hints of vanilla and oak. And the goat cheese, prosciutto, ham and pumpkin panini that we had was so delicious with this.

Santa Rita Triple C Red Blend

55% Cabernet Franc, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Carménère

This winery dates back to the late 1800′s and was one of the first to plant European grape varieties. Random fact but makes so much sense when you taste this wine, we decanted it and really let it breathe for an hour.

Los Vascos Grand Reserve

75% Cabernet Sauvignon/10% Carmenere/ 10% Syrah/ 5% Malbec

This wine had a great ruby red color with notes of cherry, plum, hazelnut, pepper and was a great wine to sit and sip.

We had a few good laughs during the chat, some people get a bit too serious but I do love learning about each wine. Having someone from the vineyard participate was fantastic; it makes the wine so much more meaningful when you hear the story.

I will always go back to Chilean wines, I love them. Full bodied, rich flavors and just great drinking red wine that are great values.
