Fans of the Fifty Shades trilogy are chomping at the bit to find out which Hollywood stars will be cast in the film version of the undeniably popular story. The character of Anastasia Steele is extremely important, but Christian Grey has been the center of speculation. While several actors’ names have been attached to the movie as possible candidates for the role, there is one man that will not be joining the cast.
Matt Bomer, who shot to notoriety with his role in USA Network’s White Collar and also in the film Magic Mike, apparently doesn’t have what it takes to play bad boy Christian Grey. Casting directors for the film are not considering him for the role and according to American Psycho writer, Bret Easton Ellis, Matt Bomer is too “openly gay” to portray a womanizer. Ellis has obviously never seen an episode of White Collar. If Bomer wasn’t capable of playing ladies’ man Neal Caffrey, then I don’t think the show would already be in its 4th season.
Ellis, who might possibly be writing the script for the movie, took to Twitter to rant about why he thinks the actor is no good for the role, tweeting, “Okay I’ll say it. Matt Bomer isn’t right for Christian Grey because he is openly gay. He’s great for other roles but this is too big a game.” Ellis then went on to say, “And I think if Matt Bomer wants the role, which I doubt, the international press tour will be an embarrassing fiasco. He is not CG. Never….”
Ellis continued his ridiculous Twitter rant by slamming Neil Patrick Harris’ role on How I Met Your Mother by saying, “central joke being that he’s a gay actor playing a womanizer. Um…” Yeah, another very popular show that’s seen, like, 8 seasons or something. Okay, Bret Easton Ellis. That’s why they are actors. Their personal lifestyle preference should have nothing to with what roles they get, especially if they are more than capable of playing them well.
