Its been developed by a lot of curious people who love the concept of Open source environment.Similar to Linux any one can submit their ideas and code towards the development of Firefox.
Started by Mozilla in the year 2004, Firefox is rapidly expanding its fire.
The following statistics were given by World Wide Web consortium in October 2012.

Mozilla Firefox 31.8%
Internet explorer 16.1%
Safari 4.3%
Opera 2.0%
Google chrome is leading the race but it is due the search giant's popularity all over the web(remember the ad on Google home page !). May be people who like online filtering will like google chrome. Or may be they don't know how google filter the web based on your taste. This filtering is in fact a very bad idea. It separates the world from you. This is exactly opposite to the goal of web communication.

Websites may track your data and filter the search results which in turn filter the content. They may use your data for their AD marketing too.
So what you can do to avoid this is using Firefox. Firefox will give you maximum privacy options. You can easily configure these privacy settings in Firefox.
Go to Firefox menu--->preferences.
Now go to preferences tab and click the button saying "Tell websites Ido not want to be tracked ".

There is one more interesting feature is present in Firefox called master password management. You might have know about "remember password" feature which will remember your login passwords(in any browser). But when you enable this feature all the people who use your PC may use your on-line accounts too.To avoid this Firefox enabled a feature called master password.You have to enter the master password every time when ever you start the browser.
