What to Read This Week

By Crossstitchyourheart @TMNienaber

Here’s what I’m adding to my to-read list this week and think you should too!

The Between by Tananarive Due in this “deeply felt” horror novel Due’s main character Hilton is saved by his grandmother as a young child from drowning.  The older he gets he begins to have nightmares that tell him he might not have been meant to survive as a child.  This novel sounds like it has a lot of possibilities as both a horror novel and a thriller.  Not to mention Due has a reputation of writing exquisitely crafted fiction.  Perfect for those summer nights when you can’t get to sleep.

The Interestings by Meg Wolitzer Six teenagers attend a summer camp for girls with artistic persuasions, but what happens at camp doesn’t stay at camp as Wolitzer follows these girls through their adolescent years into middle age.  No summer is complete without a camp novel and this one promises to be more poignant than most as it combines coming-of-age with being an adult and the bonds that make it through both.

Life After Life by Kate Atkinson Ursula Todd dies before she can fully draw her first breath, but is then reborn, dies again, and is born again multiple times throughout the years.  She continues in this seemingly infinite cycle as  the world comes to its inevitable close, unless of course, Ursula can save it from its destiny.  This book was pushed on me in every direction: Amazon, Barnes and Noble, NPR, NYT Book Review… Everyone seems to love this book and I thought I’d give it a try (after almost accidentally buying a different book with the same title that was about a woman dying in a retirement home).
