Zika Virus Spread Through Sex

The potential for the Zika virus to be spread through sex is worrying, especially as it has been found to be in the semen several weeks after contracting the disease. The Dallas County Health and Human Services (DCHHS) have confirmed that a person was infected through sex with a man who had recently traveled to Venezuela. The disease is now spreading throughout many South American countries with no way of stopping it.
It is spread by mosquitoes and insects likely to become transmitters exist in many countries where the disease is now showing signs of its presence. When men are faced with sexual abstinence or the constant use of condoms the problems associated with it may force more action to combat it.
The danger of contracting Zika virus infection during pregnancy and the resultant birth defect called microcephaly has sent out alarm signals to authorities who must now take action. The problem is how does one stop travel to and from affected areas and with the Olympic Games now just a few weeks away there will be thousands taking the virus to areas where it is not yet present.
