What is Airbrush Makeup?
Like other cosmetics applied to the skin, airbrush makeup alters or enhances the appearance. Unlike systems that use fingers, sponges or brushes, this method uses an airbrush to spray makeup onto the skin. While airbrush makeup is most popular in film and theater, some systems are designed for sunless tanning and personal home use.
The first professional airbrush makeup system was used in the 1959 film “Ben Hur.” Makeup artists used this technique to apply makeup to the large cast of actors. With the advent of high definition (HD) television and film, airbrush makeup is popular again. It is less visible than traditional liquid makeup and powder, which can settle into pores and wrinkles. Airbrush makeup is available in several different formulas including water based, alcohol based, polymer-water based, polymer-alcohol based, and silicone based makeup. Each formula provides a different type of coverage. For example, alcohol based formulas are suitable for fake tattoos, while silicone based formulas are ideal for long-lasting wear. TEMPTU is an example of an airbrush makeup system designed for home use. Top magazines describe the airbrush technique as “the beauty breakthrough of the twenty-first century.” Used on actors and fashion models since 1981, this particular airbrush system gives everyone easy access to flawless skin at home.
