Ways to Get Ready For Beach Season

By Alyssa Martinez @ItsMariaAlyssa

Everyone loves to relax, take a break from the struggles of work, school or care. One of the most common ways people like to chill out is by bathing in the warm glow of sunlight on a beautiful sandy beach. One thing is for certain when beach season comes around swarms of sun worshipping tourists and bronze-skinned athletes engulf the coastal regions with an indefatigable rush of activity. How best to maximize your enjoyment of a sun-soaked paradise? Well, this article will provide you with four ways the get ready for the beach season for maximum enjoyment and comfort.

1. Solar Protection

Nothing can ruin a relaxing day at the beach quite like an itch, crimson sunburn. Fortunately, measures can be taken to prevent this uncomfortable fate ensuring a congenial experience. It is for the best that you use a sunblock with a minimum factor of fifteen, regardless of your skin type. It is common for people to forget checking the bottle protects against both UVA (Ultraviolet A) and UVB (Ultraviolet B) rays.

Do not forget this as you will be sweating throughout the day and more than likely swimming too. Another effective way of warding off sunburn is by wearing protective clothing like hats or sunglasses, for those of you who are proud of their bodies and don't want to cover up all the hard work they've put in at the gym, I recommend bringing a beach umbrella/tent or gazebo with you. If you manage one or more of these precautions you will severely reduce the chance for sunburn and skin cancer ensuring younger, healthier looking skin for longer.

2. Leisure and Entertainment

Once you are down on the beach you are going to want ways to occupy your mind and body with fun activities to do, whether you are attending the beach alone or with a group of friends/family. Some of you will be more than content to sunbathe for the majority of the day, for the rest of you the beach is a golden paradise of opportunity. You could build a sand castle as a group. If you have access to a mobile internet connection there are tutorial videos on YouTube.com that can instruct you on how to make one (be sure to take a portable charger).

If you bring a ball, you can play soccer, dodgeball or volleyball on the beach although you should be mindful of others if the beach is crowded. The explorers among you may take interest in walking along the shore collecting shells and searching for the treasures of the sea, be sure to stay close together and avoid going too deep into the ocean without notifying somebody first.

Younger kids in the group might enjoy a game of hopscotch, you can draw the boxes in the sand and spend half an hour engaged in competition with an opposing team. There are many other ways to entertain yourself at the beach such as reading a good book in the shade, the most important aspect is to use your imagination and have fun with it.

3. Food and Drink

Depending on how long your group is planning on staying at the beach you will more than likely want to take some provisions. Ideally, you will want items that will provide energy at a consistent rate such as granola bars, fruit and veg and perhaps some ice cream. There will probably be diners and food stalls nearby for when your group becomes really hungry. Sodas don't provide a great deal of hydration so bottled water is the best option whilst in direct sunlight. Be sure to take a small bag to collect your trash as without it you may accumulate a lot of wrappers, fruit skins and empty bottles.

4. Extras

Additional ways to prepare for a sun-drenched trip to the beach include applying tanning oil to achieve that perfect ebony skin tone and return home feeling like an Olympian. Be sure to arrive early so that you can secure the perfect spot on the beach, nothing ruins a day out like being stuck next to the portable toilets. Wear appropriate swimwear that hugs your body and doesn't bunch up too much whether it be a swimsuit or a snug pair of swimming trunks. It is also important that you don't forget the essentials like towels, blankets, and deodorant.

So just to recap:

  1. Make sure you have plenty of activities to do in order to ward off boredom.
  2. Take an ample supply of snacks like fruit, veg, bottles of water and a few sweets.
  3. Wear a swimsuit that fits you comfortably and enables you to move around easily.
  4. Be sure to arrive early to find a good location.
  5. Pack essentials like towels, blanket, and deodorant.
  6. Have fun and make it your own beach experience.
