After dishing out a 5-1 beating on team Canada, team USA will be playing team Sweden for the gold on Saturday at 8:00 AM on the NHLN. Sweden defeated Russia in a 3-2 SO win. For those who have no desire getting up that early on a Saturday morning, they are re-airing the game at 8:00 PM and 11 PM on Saturday.
As always, I'm sure a significant contingent in Canada (not all) will use every excuse under the sun for why they lost that game - rather than simply coming to terms with the fact that they were soundly defeated by the better team.
For the locals who are following the tournament - How about the Pittsburgh-born (Whitehall) John Gibson? He has allowed one goal in two playoff games and the one that did get past him was a controversial goal. In mother Russia, you are apparently permitted to score a goal after the whistle is blown. In total, he has allowed 8 goals in 6 games. He currently holds a 1.42 goals-against average and a .954 saves percentage.
As for the other players with Pittsburgh ties - Vince Trocheck (Upper St. Clair) has two goals and two assists in six games, Riley Barber (Washington county) has 3 goals and 3 assists in six games and one-time Coraopolis resident J.T. Miller has two goals and a team-high-tying six assists in six games.
Time to get it done against Sweden. GO USA!
