Urban Decay describes their new foundation as a light-deflecting, buildable medium coverage foundation with a demi-matte finish that is fragrance-free, oil-free and paraben-free. I have noticed a very faint scent, but it is not that of a fragrance but one of just makeup ingredients. Naked is packaged in a skinny plastic tube with a pump which is great for sanitary reasons and the bottle itself is quite easy to hold and lightweight. I use maybe ½ to ¾ of a pump of the foundation for my entire face and apply it with my fingers. I have found that on my skin this gives the best finish (read my pores show less than when applied with a brush). Urban Decay recommends shaking the bottle before dispensing product and I do not always remember to do this, but have noticed no difference either way in the appearance of the foundation. The product itself is quite thin and runny. One would not expect that it would give good coverage, but it does! I would say the coverage when applied with my fingers is between light and medium. Comparable to most other foundations I have tried and reviewed. It is quite buildable while still looking natural. In fact, I have found that I do not necessarily even need a concealer with this foundation. It covers quite well in one application or I can add a tiny bit more to problem areas, including under eye circles, and the Naked Makeup will cover it quite nicely without looking like a spackled-on mask! Demi-matte or maybe satin is a good description of the finish as it is not perfectly matte, nor does it provide a dewy finish. The foundation feels light and pretty much like nothing on the skin. It is really quite a wonderful foundation and I am quite impressed by the new Urban Decay Naked Skin Makeup!
There is also a new brush specially designed for use with the Naked foundation. It is the Good Karma Optical Blurring Brush. I really like this brush a lot! It is completely Cruelty-Free using only Taklon Fibers. It is similar to many other buffing brushes in that it has densely packed “hairs” in a dome-shape. The main difference from other buffing brushes I have tried is that the “hairs” are a little longer which allows for a bit more movement of the “hairs”. In my opinion, this makes for a more forgiving application (mask-like faces are less likely to occur) and I have found the longer “hairs” make the product less prone to sticking in any dry patches as well! The brush is really quite well designed and I really like it – and it is SOOOO soft! My only problem, and it is not the brush as I have this problem whenever I apply foundation with a brush, is that it seems to emphasize my pores (as I’ve said they are the bane of my existence!). If this is not an issue for you, I would highly recommend this brush for any foundation you choose to use with it. It is a beautiful brush! It retails for $24.00 and can be found where Urban Decay is sold.
Overall I am quite impressed with this foundation. For the moment, it seems my foundation of choice, though I still REALLY love my Hourglass foundation (but it is SO expensive!). I find the formula very easy to apply, it looks quite natural, it does not break me out, has no purfumey scent and it wears well throughout the day, though I do feel it does not quite last with the same perfection it begins with by day’s end. It does not control oil at all, but a bit of powder certainly can keep that at bay. By the same token, it also does not seem to emphasize dryness (thought being summer, I do not have much trouble with dry patches). It is designed for all skin types and I would have to agree that I think it would work for anyone and of virtually any skin tone! If you are looking for a new foundation, Urban Decay’s Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Makeup is certainly worth serious consideration!
