Unboxing My New 2024 WFH Setup: Lenovo ThinkPad Monitor & HP Elitebook i5.

Introduction: A Fresh Start to the Work Year of 2024

As the mid year which is June 2024 kicks off, I am thrilled to share an exciting upgrade to my work-from-home (WFH) setup, courtesy of my company where I worked for 8 years and a half now. With the evolving landscape of remote work, having a reliable and efficient workspace is more crucial than ever. Today, I'll be unboxing a brand-new 24-inch Lenovo ThinkPad monitor and an HP Elitebook i5 laptop, replacing my older equipment that served me well during the pandemic.

 

Unboxing the New Equipment

  • Lenovo ThinkPad Monitor:

First up, the Lenovo ThinkPad monitor. This sleek 24-inch screen is a significant change from my previous 34-inch Xiaomi curved monitor. While the Xiaomi monitor was fantastic for an immersive experience; the said monitor that I got,  out from my pocket, the Lenovo ThinkPad offers a more streamlined, compact design that fits perfectly into my updated desk setup - and this is for free. 

The unboxing process was straightforward. The monitor came well-packaged with all the necessary accessories, including a manual, stand, power cable, and HDMI cable. Setting it up was a breeze, and the quality of the display is impressive but I like the my 34 inches more. The vibrant colors and crisp resolution make it an excellent choice for both work and casual browsing.

  • HP Elitebook i5 Laptop:

Next, the star of the show - the HP Elitebook i5. This laptop is a replacement for the four-year-old device I had been using since the early days of the pandemic. Unboxing the Elitebook, I was immediately impressed by its sleek design and lightweight build. It's evident that this laptop is designed for professionals who need a reliable machine for both work.

The Elitebook i5 boasts a powerful processor, ample storage, and robust security features, making it an ideal choice for a seamless for my work-from-home et up and I can also grab it and put inside my bag whenever I have to report to the office. After powering it up, I quickly set up my work environment, appreciating the speed and efficiency of this new device.


Touring My 2024 WFH Setup
With the unboxing complete, it's time to tour my revamped 2024 WFH setup. My desk is now more organized sans there are still mismanaged wires (sorry for that), with the Lenovo ThinkPad monitor taking center stage and the HP Elitebook i5 positioned conveniently beside it (right side) and my Acer Personal Laptop (left side) . Here's how I've optimized my space:
  •  Monitor Placement:
The Lenovo ThinkPad monitor is perfectly aligned at eye level, reducing strain during long hours of work. Its adjustable stand allows me to find the most comfortable viewing angle, and the smaller size compared to the Xiaomi monitor opens up more desk space for other essentials.
  •  Laptop Docking:
The HP Elitebook i5 is placed to right side -  a station that connects it seamlessly to the monitor, keyboard, and mouse; and my Acer Personal Laptop is in the left side which is fixed to a laptop stand - for my personal use like gaming, browsing, video editing and  for content creation task. This setup allows me to switch between work laptop to personal laptop effortlessly. The docking station also keeps my workspace clutter-free but for now it is messy since it has wires but in the future when I have idle time, I'll be  managing these various  wires.  
  • Keyboard and Mouse:
I’m using a mechanical keyboard from Royal Kludge - RK-S98 with customizable RGB lighting and a high-precision wireless mouse from Logitech G502-X. These peripherals enhance my productivity and add a touch of personalization to my workspace.
  • Dual-Purpose Setup:
One of the highlights of my new setup is its dual-purpose functionality. With the click of a button, I can switch from a fully secured work environment to a personal setup for gaming and social media. This flexibility ensures that my workspace is not just for productivity but also for relaxation and entertainment. There is a Baseus HDMI switch that allows me to quickly change sources without pulling out  manually  the chord from it sources.
  • Additional Accessories:
To complete my setup, I have a high-quality microphone for virtual meetings , recording podcast  and using for livestreaming my game, with a key light that I can just easily tilt down or up - to change where it has to be pointed whether to my face or to the table . These accessories ensure that I present myself professionally during work hours and create engaging content during my personal time. 
In addition, I have my Samsung Tab s9 in the lower left corner part of the table, I am using it for gaming and other on-the-go task. 
Conclusion: Ready for the Future
This upgrade has transformed my work-from-home experience, making it more efficient, comfortable, and enjoyable. The Lenovo ThinkPad monitor and HP Elitebook i5 laptop have exceeded my expectations, providing the perfect balance between work and play.
As we navigate the evolving remote work landscape, having a setup that caters to both professional and personal needs is invaluable. I’m excited to see how this new equipment enhances my productivity and allows me to make the most of my time at home.
