Udon Goen is the new kid in Wisma Atria's Food Republic. Don't be fooled by its name, they don't just serve udon at Udon Goen. The latest addition to Udon Goen's menu - Japanese Tonkatsu Curry Rice is a hot-favourite among its customers since its introduction!
"The secret to Udon Goen's Tonkatsu Curry Rice is none other than adding Tonkotsu stock (pork bones boiled for at least 10 hours) as the soup base." - Executive Chef, Kumasaka Kazunari.
Strategically-located on level 4 of Wisma Atria, Udon Goen will be the first stall you see once you step foot in Food Republic via the escalator.
Using only ingredients flown in from Kagawa, Japan, you can be assured of the freshness and quality of Udon Goen food.
We were spoilt by the variety of food that Udon Goen offer on their menu. But we took the Chef's recommendation to try the Tonkotsu Special Ramen ($10.80) and Tonkatsu and Chicken Katsu Japanese Original Curry Rice ($10.80).

The toppings for the ramen such as wakame, spring onions, garlic etc are self-service over the counter which you can help yourselves to it.
The soup base of Udon Goen's Tonkotsu Special Ramen is very flavourful which reminded me of the first bowl of ramen I had in Meguro on the first day I arrived in Tokyo. The thick and juicy Char Siu slices left us craving for more.
Tonkatsu and Chicken Katsu Japanese Double Katsu Original Curry Rice, $10.80
If there's a word to describe Udon Goen's Tonkatsu and Chicken Katsu Japanese Double Katsu Original Curry rice, it has to be generous! I mean, look at how huge the serving of Tonkatsu and Chicken Katsu is! When the Chef presented this plate of goodness to us, both my dining partner, Joanne and I both stared at each other before exclaiming out loud, "How exactly are we gonna finish this?!"
Unlike the regular Japanese curry out there in the market, Udon Goen's Japanese curry is not as starchy. As I am a big fan of Japanese curry and I love pairing it with rice, I would prefer if more Japanese curry sauce was served with Udon Goen's Japanese Double Katsu Original Curry rice. However, the crispy yet not-oily Tonkatsu and Chicken Katsu make up for it.
