It’s amazing what you can find stuffed into some of your favourite magazines! In mine I was given some samples from the TRESemmé Split Remedy range, including a shampoo, conditioner and Mend & Protect Leave-In treatment. I usually don’t stray from Herbal Essences so I was looking forward to trying something new. The last time I tried TRESemmé products I wasn’t very impressed – I bought the volumising range and was left with limp hair, but this was over 5 years ago and I didn’t want to hold a grudge. I did, however, want to tackle my split ends. A poor graduate like myself can’t afford to visit the hairdressers too often so this seemed like it could be an ideal hair care product for me.

These sachets actually have enough for 2 hair washes if you have medium length hair, but the very first thing I noticed when opening the sachets was how nice they smell! For those of you familiar with Benefit’s It’s Potent! Eye Cream or the Total Moisture Facial Cream, this hair range smells like that but even nicer. It’s so fresh and it just stayed put all day. Every time I moved my hair released the smell again and I was getting compliments from so many people about my ‘really lovely perfume’, and they were all impressed when I told them it was my shampoo. This in itself is definitely a confidence boost.

When applying the shampoo I found it didn’t lather up very much, but it did leave my hair and scalp feeling very clean. The conditioner also made my hair feel luxuriously soft and tangle-free which was lovely. Then the Mend & Protect Leave-In treatment is applied to damp hair, focussing on the ends. The TRESemmé Split Remedy works by mending split ends and preventing future ones. It can do this because split ends hve a negative charge and this range is filled with positive charges which heals split ends. It helps to make your hair look like it’s in good condition and is frizz-free, just like it is when you leave the hairdressing salon. After 2 uses I did see quite a big difference in the condition of my hair; I have flyaway hair and the Split Remedy range kept it under control. I usually use volumising shampoos and conditioners so I did notice that my hair was a more flat than usual, but it looks shiny and well-groomed. I also noticed that the leave-in treatment caused my hair to take longer to dry, but this isn’t too problematic.

Usually I wash my hair every other day, but I did find that due to the conditioner and leave-in treatment being quite strong my hair did get greasier quicker than usual. I have naturally greasy hair anyway, but I’m sure my hair would have felt fresher for longer had I used less conditioner and left out the leave-in treatment. Dry shampoo helped to give my hair a little spruce too!

I am impressed with the Split Remedy range. I did notice a quick and obvious reduction in split ends and flyaway hair which is really what I was after. I wasn’t expecting such a lovely smell, and the smell alone is why I would buy these products again. The softness of my hair was great too. Not bad for £4.99 for a 500ml. The only improvements I would make would be for the shampoo to add some volume to my hair and to be a little less greasy. Otherwise I liked it and it’s a pleasant change from my usual hair care products.
