Learning is a constant process, and I have always loved the idea of learning through my work. I started my influencing career in 2011, after a career in Advertising and Public Relations. Since then, there was no looking back.
Why Influencing:
Influencing is an excellent means of getting to know about various products and services and letting others know about them. It is a powerful means to earn knowledge and experience about something new and share it with others. That by itself is a fascinating opportunity. An influencer is entitled to share her honest and individual views about anything.
Is Influencing a Mode of Advertising:
Often Influencing and Advertising is considered to be the same. However, having worked in the Advertising field for seven years, I can guarantee bipolar concepts. While advertising, the product or service provided, is always shown positively, influencing is more of a personal opinion or feedback that may or may not have only positive points mentioned.
Advertising is a much more professional approach, where models and technicians are hired for shoots. Influencing, on the other hand, is personal and individual.
The only similarity that can be drawn between these two fields is that both share information with the audience.
5 Perks of Being an Influencer:
1. You can be flexible: An influencer is entitled to work according to her flexibility, concerning time and place. One can start her influencing journey from the comfort of her home and can work anytime she wants to. As an influencer, one can have a permanent job side by side.
2. You are free to be Authentic: This is the main reason why influencing cannot be considered as advertising. An influencer is expected to be authentic and share her own experience from a personal point of view. There is a trust factor that forms between her and her audience.
3. Connection: This is another fantastic opportunity that an influencer gets. She gets to connect with many people, be part of groups and communities and create a massive circle of like-minded people with similar interests.
4. Niche Targeting: While a print or Tv commercial reaches a diverse audience, most of whom may not be interested in the product, influencer marketing brands can precisely reach their target audience. E.g. if a beauty brand wants to reach its niche audience, it will be done more smoothly with a beauty influencer who has already built her credibility to a loyal group of followers. That becomes an easier job for the brand in terms of niche reach and cost-effectivity. This also gives the influencer a perfect opportunity of earning well in terms of sponsored opportunity or affiliate marketing.
5. Freebies, Goodies, Vacation: Most influencers start their journey of influencing to avail these perks. An influencer gets to get the best of things and services a brand offers. She gets free access to all products from a brand she works with before even those get launched.
These are the long term benefits of being an influencer. There are a lot of other reasons why one can choose influencing as her career. Some of which are quick bucks for students, extra income for working professionals and homemakers. Last but not least, it can be a savior in terms of financial emergencies. Often a salaried individual may not have that extra urgent money in times of crisis. Influencing allows earning and saving for these problematic hours.
