Too Faced Le Grand Chateau Review and Swatches

By Kwilliford @ExquisiteEczema
Too Faced's Christmas in Paris was one of the first collections that really caught my eye for the Holiday season.  The packaging is adorable and each set is a great value.  I've already reviewed the Le Petit Tresor set, but I have actually had this palette for a month now. I absolutely love it and reach for it all the time.

This set includes three separate palettes. Each one has 6 eyeshadows and a blush. The quality of all three palettes is amazing. Almost all of the shades are nicely pigmented, soft, blend well, and are long lasting. Some would say that the blushes are not pigmented enough, but that is fine with me as I don't like intensely pigmented cheek color. These are the kind of eyeshadows that do best over a base. I use M.A.C's Panterly Paint Pot and it makes a huge difference. I will post swatches of them on their own and over Painterly.
Paris After Dark:

  • Le Marais: shimmery beige with pink duo chrome
  • Rendezvous: matte light taupe
  • Provence: shimmery violet
  • Parfait: shimmery peachy pink
  • Tres Chic: sheer black with pink micro glitter
  • Noir: matte black
  • Tres Fab: matte bright coral pink blush

Swatched over Painterly.

As the name suggests, this palette has smokier shades that would be great for a night out. Provence isn't as intense as I was hoping for, but it does look gorgeous on the lid. Tres Chic looks beautiful along the lash line or on top of a black liner, but I wouldn't recommend blending it because that would cause you to lose some of the pink sparkles. And Parfait is so darn pretty! It is lovely on the lid or as an inner corner highlight. I've actually reached for this palette more than the other two.  There is just something beautiful and mysterious about a purple toned smoky eye. Overall, Tres Fab is a lovely blush. It can be a bit patchy and chalky, but  I haven't had any issues blending it out. For my blush use, it works just fine.
Paris Au Naturale:

  • Pot Du Creme: matte vanilla
  • Fifi: matte taupe
  • Le Femme: matte dark brown
  • Bonjour: metallic copper
  • Merci: shimmery warm toned brown
  • Oui: black with gold micro glitter. The official description says it is a dark brown, but it looks black to me.
  • Mademoiselle: matte peach

Swatched over Painterly.

This is the neutral palette of the set. You won't find anything too unique here, but it is an easy palette to use and I have used it many times. Each shade has good pigment and they are buttery and easy to blend. I'm not a huge fan of the blush in this one. It is more sheer, but it is a little less patchy than Tres Fab. It still works for me,  but there are other blushes I would rather use. When worn without a primer, the shadows don't look like much. But when you do use one, wow. They are amazing. Except Oui. That one doesn't do much for me on its own. I like to use it over black eyeliner to add a touch of sparkle while also setting the eyeliner. It does tend to smudge easily, so be aware of that little quirk. I do like that Oui is smooth. You expect it to feel gritty because of the glitter, but it is just as soft as the other shades.
Paris In Love:

  • Amour: satin cream
  • Fleur: peachy pink duo chrome
  • Je T'aime: metallic light pink
  • Moi: shimmery medium brown
  • Cherie: metallic taupe
  • Tout Suite: warm toned dark brown with gold shimmer
  • Jolie: shimmering copper

As the name suggests, this palette has romantic shades of pink and brown. Quality wise, this is the best of the bunch. Each shade is buttery and highly pigmented. There are no mattes in this one. Each shade has a metallic or satin finish. My favorites are Cherie and Fleur. Fleur has such a gorgeous duo chrome, and I am thrilled that I got a shot that shows it. I don't like the blush (or bronzer, really) included. It is too muddy for my skin tone. But it makes a lovely eyeshadow.
And the packaging is adorable. The outside looks like a French chateau. The top comes off and the front opens up to reveal the three palettes and the included deluxe sample of Better Than Sex mascara.

The only downside is how bulky it is. As a result, it will take up a lot of room if you keep the entire thing. But the palettes come out and they have magnetic closures, so you can keep them without the rest of the set. Each palette also has "to" and "from" on the back, so you are able to gift individual palettes. Or, you know, keep them for yourself. I'm not here to judge. ;)
This set is $49, which includes 18 eyeshadows that are 0.04 oz each, three blushes that are 0.19 each, and the mascara is 0.17 oz. It is valued at $215. You can find it at Sephora, Ulta, and Too Faced's website.
It isn't perfect, but it is easy to use, has great colors, and it is hands down one of the cutest gifts of the season.
