These Heels Were Made for Strolling

By Reasonstodress

I’ll admit that I’ve become Italian enough to stroll every now and then in heels!  Like when I was out for sushi and paired some heels with patterned pants (here), or when I paired heels with a modern egg coat for a Saturday stroll but usually I use heels sparingly.

Unless you are going to a wedding, wearing heels and pushing a stroller is a very big statement.  In Italy, heels on a regular mom who is just walking around is something you’ll often see on Saturday.  Here, I’ve written about why Saturday is an institution.  Think of it as “parade day” for the family, where you all go on a passeggiata (walk), meet friends, go shopping and stay out for an aperitivo.

On this particular Saturday a few weeks ago, I ran into this dressed to the nines mom, who obviously takes great pride in how she presents herself and her family.

I asked her where she was going all dolled up, and she said “centro”, meaning to the city centre!

I LOVE THIS ABOUT ITALIAN CULTURE!

They don’t need an occasion to dress up, the weekend together as a family is occasion enough. She was with her husband and daughter, all strolling hand in hand to a day together.

What She Wore

Decked out in platform heels (remember she was out WALKING, so these were her WALKING HEELS!), a graphic black and white blazer, a Rolex and designer shades, she accessories with an obi-style belt.

She was so nice…actually her whole family was so nice, we said goodbye and then off she went to enjoy the rest of her Saturday stroll with her family, al three of them looking polished.

What do you think of this normal Italian family?  Have you ever gotten all dolled up to go and wander your hometown?  Does this exist anywhere aside from Italy?
