The Reservists: Foreign Lands

Glaswegian indie act The Reservists are a duo consisting of Pelts bandmates Ralph Hector and Ben Brown. On their debut album Foreign Lands they use a grab bag of styles, from post-rock to gentle pop and folk, with travel and getting older as the themes to tie it all together. They stay close to home with a song about a guy who climbed all the 3000+ feet Scottish mountains (The Munroist), show their love for the catchy pop melodies of New Zealander Neil Finn with Kaikoura and Raining In Auckland and try to deal with having to leave a lover behind in Thailand with the two parts of I Left My Heart In Sanam Pao.

Multi-instrumentalist Hector and drummer Brown are sonic explorers, providing the soundtrack for embarking on adventurous journeys from the comfort of your own home. Their ability to transport the listener is top-shelf and since the world is such a big place they have tapped into a source that will enable them to write plenty more after this. Fingers crossed that it is more than a one-off side-project.

Foreign Lands is released via Iffy Folk Records (CD, digital).
