The Next Big Thing

By Eriktiger @eriktiger

Okay I guess it’s my turn. All the cool people are doing it. My thanks to Leigh M. Lane, one of my absolute favorite writers, for inviting me to be a part of this week’s Next Big Thing blog posting group. The Next Big Thing is a meme trickling through author blogs of numerous genres, with each participant answering the same questions about either a work in progress or a work currently being marketed. Each author then chooses five other authors to keep the chain going. The all revealing questions:

What is the title of your book?

“The Dark Trek Home”

How did you come by the idea?

It started as short story about a father and son out fishing…they run into something pretty terrible lurking under the pond they are fishing.

What genre does your book fall under?

Sci-fi Horror.

Which actors would you choose to play your characters if it were a movie?

No idea. Not a very fun answer, I know.

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

A man searching for his brother’s killer soon learns the guilty are beyond the law-light-years beyond, and this epic mystery will see many dark days before he finds his way home.

Will your book be self-published or traditional?

Neither, actually. It is being published by Visionary Press Cooperative. A member owned publishing business where we all work together to put out great stories.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

I wrote most of it during NaNoWriMo in 2011. I guess I needed a month or so after that to wrap up the story.

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

Not sure about this one either. It’s a different kind of blend. This story is nestled in a mystery, has enduring characters people can relate too, has zombies, monsters, and, well, many other aspects.

Who or what inspired you to write this book?

I was inspired by happy memories of fishing with my father as a child. And I wanted to stretch myself beyond the typical horror that I had been writing, wanted to slip into the sci if genre a bit and really break free of boundaries that I had been accustomed too. Hopefully this is something different.

What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

Vivid action. Zombie children in a playground. Underground worlds. A grand mystery to find a boy …and two opposing groups with the same: to make it home. And best of all, it is being unleashed unto the world in next couple of weeks! I hope you pick up a copy and let me know what you think!!

The author I’ve chosen to continue the chain on December 23rd is Lachelle Redd http://thehotcauldron.blogspot.com
