The Eye Opener | Smashbox Always Sharp Waterproof Eyeliner “Bare”

By Blessmybag @blessmybag

I’ve always had a gap in my kit waiting for a flesh colored eyeliner great enough to use on the lower eye waterline.  Last month I picked up two of Smashbox’s Always Sharp Waterproof (Automatic) Eyeliners from Beauty Bar, I got an eggplant purple called Violetta and this  flesh colored one is called “Bare”.  I’ve heard Ruth Crilly of A Model Recommends rave repeatedly about these and just recently spotted it again in Anna’s (Vivianna Does Makeup) Getting Ready video for the Brit Awards.  It was also what I used last week on the lower rims of my eyes for my smoldering Valentine night out look.

Ditch your sharpener, but stay sharp! This waterproof kohl eyeliner glides on and self-sharpens every time you twist the cap off. Inspired by Smashbox pros who sharpen before every use on set, this first-of-its-kind pencil has a sharpener built right into the cap for a perfect tip-so you’ll always get a precise line. ·   Can be used on inner rim
·   Precision of a liquid liner in a fool-proof pencil
·   Waterproof and non-flaking

Each time you twist open and close the automatic liner the nib automatically protrudes a bit more and gets sharpened, what a brilliant, innovative convenience but there are a few things one must note so you don’t ruin it.  I was confused for awhile as to where I was supposed to twist the pen if I wanted more of the nib to come out, I found out that doesn’t need to happen because it already does it for you each time you twist the cap on and off. If you’re a beauty blogger and want to cover it but want to look at it again without any sharpening action twist it to close lightly but not all the way down.  Remember not to twist it open and close it over and over unnecessarily (a beauty blogger problem LOL) unless you’re going to really use the eyeliner or the nib will get squashed or break from constant protruding and sharpening.

The finish is a matte but slightly creamy flesh shade and the texture is obviously more long lasting than a kajal type pencil.  Non-traditionally, I am going to show you the before and after shot in black and white format (colored photo at the end) Why?  Because from a medium distance as part of a cohesive makeup look no one can really tell if it’s flesh colored or not unless they’re nit-picky people who are into makeup as well, otherwise they couldn’t care less.  However, pure white does jump out way too much, pale yellow to deeper tones are what blend in more naturally. What matters is the overall difference on the eyes, does it really make a difference?  The mascara I’m using is Benefit Bad Gal Waterproof.

As you can tell the difference is subtle but you can certainly tell the eye on the right looks more awake in a way that isn’t over the top and as part of an overall look…

…this does the job beautifully.  The eyeliner lasts about a  good 2-3 hours on the lower rims of the eyes if you don’t tear up or cry and it actually makes a great NON-SHIMMERY option to highlight the inner corner of the eye (like I did here).  The Smashbox Always Sharp Waterproof Eyeliners are available at Beauty Bar, they’re not cheap for about Php1000 but in the end you’re paying for a well made product and top notch convenience, it comes in about 4-5 other colors including black.
