That was a bit of a hefty title wasn’t it? In January my skin was what can only be described as ABSOLUTELY AWFUL. I was doing quite well until I went to Edinburgh, and the extreme wind, cold and rain practically ruined my skin. I nearly broke down in tears with embarrassment when a lovely lady in Space NK mentioned my dry skin, she was very lovely about it though and gave me a sample of the eye-wateringly expensive Hourglass primer (which I actually really like – bugger). Anyways, this spurred me on to really get my ass into gear and step up the skincare, so when The Body Shop had 40% off (which they regularly do, never buy anything full price!) I jumped straight in and picked up a couple of things.
I’ve been using the Soap and Glory Peaches & Clean cleanser throughout December and January and I must review it on here soon as I absolutely love it, however I found using it every day is a little too much for me and my sensitive skin. Using it too often, paired with the atrocious weather we saw for a few weeks, made my skin so dry and sore that I really needed some products to try to calm and soothe it -into my life walks my first ever cleansing balm.
I had wanted to try a cleansing balm for ages, but with the famous Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm being way out of my price range, and the Body Shop Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter being even cheaper than the Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm alternative, I thought I’d give the Body Shop’s offering a try to tempt me into the world of cleansing balms. As I haven’t tried any other ones I’m afraid I can’t compare it to anything, but I do really, really like it! It’s got a very strange texture and I definitely think they are right when they describe it as a butter, it feels kind of hard to the touch at first but then instantly melts away when you rub your fingers on it. How odd. The first time I used this I used way too much because it doesn’t actually feel like you’re using anything, but I’ve got the knack of it now so I’m not just wasting product! I like to use this on a night time either on it’s own or as a double cleanse, and afterwards my skin feels so soft you wouldn’t believe. It says it’s suitable for all skin types, and my skin has been loving me using something so gentle. It also hasn’t really got much of a scent, it’s kind of just a faint plant-like smell that smells nice and fresh. A little bonus about this product is that it’s only £12 – a fraction of the price of most other cleansing balms so perfect if like me, you’re trying it for the first time!
The Body Shop Aloe Calming Facial Cleanser I don’t love as much I’m afraid. It does feel like it’s calming my skin, doesn’t irritate it, and leaves it feeling clean and my makeup removed, but for £8 for the full size I’m not sure it’s worth it. I feel like it’s nothing special if you get what I mean, it could be any old cleanser! I mean with 40% off that would take it down to £4.80 so I probably would repurchase then just because I know my skin hasn’t reacted badly to it and it’s always good to have a fail-safe cleanser to turn to when your skin isn’t feeling great, but meehhhhhh I just don’t really feel that much love towards this.
Although I wasn’t 100% sold on the Aloe Calming Cleanser, I definitely would like to try more of the The Body Shops’s skincare and makeup. I feel like it is really good quality and as they always have major discounts you’re bound to get a few good bargains like the lovely Sumptuous Cleansing Butter!
