The Barclays Tournament is kicking off this week which means it's time for us to review the venue and most importantly evaluate the field and make our Fantasy Golf picks. The tournament will be held at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale New York. The Black course is the toughest of the 5 public courses at Bethpage State Park. In 2002 it became the first publicly owned golf course to host the U.S. Open, and today is no stranger to the PGA Tour.
The field this week is jamb packed with talent, and I struggled making my list of favorites for this weeks fantasy golf. In the end, I narrowed it down and here's the guys I'll be keeping an eye on and cheering through to Sunday's finish...
RORY MCILROY: Thanks for picking Pettersson and Bradley ahead of the world No. 1, guys. Bethpage Black is a big ballpark, and no one is hitting it better than Rory right now. Tied for 10th here in 2009 U.S. Open. If he putts halfway decent, it's over.
BO VAN PELT: As long as he's in the FedExCup Playoffs -- and at 23rd in points right now he's got a great shot at going all the way -- I'm backing him. He's been ultra-consistent this year (eight top-10s and 13 top-25s in 20 starts) and he's second in the all-around.
TIGER WOODS: I had to pick Tiger Woods at Bethpage Black ... right? He's the only player with three PGA TOUR wins this year. Ranks first in FedExCup points, scoring average and money. And ... he's won on this course before.
BUBBA WATSON: Coming off a T11 at the PGA Championship -- and I like him at another bomber's course at Bethpage Black. First in driving distance, second in greens hit and second in greens hit from the rough. Tied for 18th here in 2009.
Here's my my complete picks look like...
