The Age of Honesty

When was the last time you were truly honest with somebody? The no-holds-barred, somewhat brutal kind? The kind you were first taught was the ‘best policy’ but then later told was impolite and hurtful.

When was the last time you were honest with a loved one about the way you felt in a certain situation? I bet you spared their feelings and ended up with that gut-wrenching swell in the pit of your stomach as you lied or withheld information or twisted the truth so that what you really wanted to say didn’t escape your mouth as it lay on the tip of your tongue.

When was the last time somebody lied to you? Can you ever really be certain that you have all the facts of the case in life? And when were you last dishonest with yourself?

Let’s cut the bullshit and start telling each other the truth.

‘I like you.’ Or maybe even ‘love you’. Perhaps ‘you are fabulous but yes that outfit looks hideous on you. Please change.’ Or ‘I ate your cookie and then blamed it on the kid.’

See, now doesn’t that just feel so much better?
