Working in lower Manhattan, side by side with some of the most successful bankers and lawyers in the world, I see my fair share of rocks each day. And by rocks I, of course, mean diamond engagement rings.
Having been working for a year and a half, I am lucky to (more or less) have saved up and rewarded myself with a few items from my ever-evolving wish list. With that said, as someone relatively fresh out of college, certain items on my list are more attainable in the immediate future while others will have to wait until I make it big. Really big.
So what does this all have to do with Wall Street you ask? There is one item that no matter how much I save or how big I make it – I, or any woman for that matter, will never be able to afford herself. The rock.
Maybe that is what makes it so special? That it is unattainable. That behind each and every engagement ring, there is a love story between two people. That for the item to exist, it demands two equal parts.
Of course, the fact that something so small in size shines so big and completes any outfit, whether it be a workout get-up or a black tie dress, doesn’t hurt. But then again, maybe it isn’t the ring that completes the outfit but the blissful state of mind of a woman in love.
Cheers to those wearing their rings and to the rest of us who are still searching for our happily ever after.
