A few months ago, I was introduced to mineral makeup brand ELES. I reviewed some of their products here and was especially delighted with their Retexture Primer. Few months down the track and couple other test tries of different primers, I am still convinced that ELES one is amazing! Anyway, I got to try out a few more products from ELES recently. These are the products I was sent:
ELES Powderliner Pencil in Coal
I don’t think I have mentioned this before but when it comes to eyeliner, my choice is often good ol’ eyeliner pencil! I own a couple of liquid eyeliners but due to my hooded Asian eyelids, I often have the problem of product smudging on the rest of my lids before they dry. I prefer pencils; quick and easy.
This ELES Powderliner Pencil is made up of a really smooth and creamy formula which means no dragging. Also, it comes with a sponge tip end to help in “diffusing and blending” color. I find the sponge tip very well made. Soft enough to not drag, yet just sturdy enough to spread the product. I use it each time without fail.
I like wearing eyeliner on both my upper and lower lashline. Sometimes, it might look a bit heavy for a daytime look (but I still do it anyway lol). What I do now though, is use this ELES Powderliner Pencil as usual on my upper lashline but for my lower lashline, I only apply to the outer 1/3 and then use the sponge tip to diffuse the product towards the inner corners of my eye. This way, I get a touch of eyeliner on my entire lower lashline but in a soft and diffused manner.
At $43.25, this Powderliner Pencil honestly does seem a tad pricey for an eyeliner pencil but I did enjoy using it.
ELES Mineral Gemstone Finishing Powder
This ‘mosaic’ powder combines 4 colours to “enhance skin tone and correctly balance the complexion” when blended together.
I received the Bronzer and here are the swatches. The shades are meant to be blended together to achieve the intended effect but I tried to swatch them separately and then together just out of curiosity (some are actually matte, some are satin finish etc).
When blended together, this bronzer does give a beautiful, glowing effect. I did think it leaned towards being a little too orange. However, it still does work fine when applied with a light hand. I just would be cautious about over-applying as the orange undertone can accidentally create a muddy look.
Being the highlighting and contouring enthusiast (read carefully: not “expert”; I said “enthusiast”!) that I am, I tried to use it for contouring. However, due to the overall orangey tone, it did not blend in naturally enough with my skin tone. Shade 2 was the most appropriate shade I could use for contouring but it is quite hard to pick out the shades individually anyway. As mentioned, they are meant to be blended together.
Overall, I will say that this bronzer works beautiful when dusted on with a light hand for a subtle glow effect but I don’t think it would be very suitable for contouring if you use bronzers for that purpose. RRP: $101.50
ELES Mineral Matte Shadow in Indigo & Terra Peach
I have been looking for a matte blue and the ELES Indigo was just what I was looking for. It is a dark navy blue, very smooth and easy to work with. It doesn’t look flat or boring as a matte shade. At certain angles, it almost looks black yet you can see the overall navy blue tone. It is a bit hard to pick up the product with my brush for some reason so I just had to use my fingers for this one.
ELES Mineral Eye Shadow in Clay Earth
Clay Earth is such a unique shade and ended up my favourite of the 3. In the pan, it looks almost cement grey-brown but when applied, it almost has a mauve sheen to it. Very unique indeed. I love the amount of shimmer in this too; very fine subtle shimmer suitable for work place or any day look yet buildable for a more daring night look. The quality of their shimmer shadows actually almost reminds me of Urban Decay’s plus the added bonuses of mineral makeup! Just look at the swatch! RRP: $25.50
As a side note, you would know by now I am a messy hair kind of person. You would think if I could spend 10 minutes on my makeup, I would be able to spend 1 minute tidying my hair. I don't know. It's just me. I'm a messy hair person lol.
