Tennis Fixation Favorites For August!

By Kselz @TennisFixation

Happy Labor Day! It’s time, once again, for Tennis Fixation Favorites!  This is one of my favorite posts to do because it gives me a chance to list some of the things that I got obsessed with or fixated on during the month.  So, even though it’s September, I can’t let August go.  In August, I started my “DIY” Tennis Boot Camp over on YouTube, I found some great tennis-specific stretches to help me get ready for fall tennis league, and I came across a great vegan athlete – Rich Roll – who is inspiring and fun.  Below is my list of links that preoccupied me this month.  If you see something you’re interested in, just click on the title to be whisked over to the website, video, post, etc.  So get fixated with me with my Fixation Friday list for August 2013!

TENNIS STUFF

Fan’s Touching Story Will Make Roger Federer Your Favorite Athlete – Well, Roger Federer was already one of my favorite athletes, but after reading about the wonderful Wimbledon experience he provided through the Make-A-Wish Foundation to a 17-year-old cancer survivor and tennis player, he truly holds my top spot. In these days of steroid-injecting baseball players and murder-suspect football players, it’s nice to read about an incredible athlete who is also a good human being.

Stretching Exercises For Tennis Elbow – As a past (but thankfully not current) sufferer of tennis elbow, I’ve been looking for exercises I can do to make sure I avoid suffering a recurrence of this devastating injury.  This WebMD article shows two quick and easy stretches you can do every day to help in the fight against tennis elbow.

Yoga For Tennis Players – Yes, I’m getting into the yoga thing (as I keep promising myself). So I’m very excited when I see the yoga poses in this article that are most likely to help my on-court play. Tennis + Yoga = Possible On-Court Advantage???  I’m willing to try almost anything.

Tennis Fixation’s “DIY” Boot Camp Intro – Okay, here’s the first in my series of boot camp videos, meant to help me get in shape for my upcoming fantasy camp at the U.S. Tennis Congress in October.  I think this video does a wonderful job of illustrating that I don’t know anything about making videos.  Subscribe to my Tennis Fixation YouTube channel if you want to follow along with this fun series.

NON-TENNIS STUFF

Do I Need To Refuel Mid-Workout? – Some really good tips for fueling during any kind of workout and definitely helpful info that could be applied to help maintain or even increase energy during a tennis match.

Why Everyone Should Eat More Plants – Wow!  There are so many great points made in this article by Rich Roll, the author of Finding Ultra: Rejecting Middle Age, Becoming One of the World’s Fittest Men, and Discovering Myself and one of the “25 Fittest Men in the World” according to Men’s Fitness. How about this one? According to Rich, “In the most simplistic terms, if America flipped the Standard American Diet so that we began getting 94% of our calories from fresh, whole plant-based foods (rather than current levels of 6%), most of our diseases would simply vanish. And our health care crisis would essentially repair itself.” This is an interesting article and Rich is definitely someone to pay attention to if you’re interested in getting fit and healthy.
