Ten Famous People Who Suffer From Borderline Personality Disorder

By Russell Deasley @Worlds_Top_10

While most people in the public eye will probably try and hide any form of mental health illness there are some that are happy to talk about it. These ten well-known celebrities all suffer from Borderline personality disorder (BPD) and are happy to talk about it, thus promoting mental health awareness. Please note here, I’m not qualified to diagnose anyone with BPD, but I have named many of these famous people and celebrities based on the signs they have displayed in the past, or throughout their lives. BPD still remains one of the least understood and most stigmatized mental health conditions so any publicity surrounding it can’t be a bad thing…

Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn Monroe

While she was born too early to be diagnosed with the condition she does show all the signs of having it and was regularly heard talking about her depression and anxiety. She also had several husbands that she self-admits she “pushed away” for seemingly no reason.

Britney Spears

If there is one celebrity that has been to hell and back it has to be Britney Spears. While her pop style songs are happy and upbeat it is pretty clear to all her fans there is a battle going on inside her head and that is most likely BPD. While she hasn’t been officially diagnosed there are clear signs this is what she is suffering with.

Amy Winehouse

Amy Winehouse

Sadly this star took her own life in July 2011 but was showing clear signs of BPD through her life and indeed her musical career. From the self-medicating drinking to the huge dips and highs of depression, she sadly lost her battle, but her memory goes on to help promote mental health as a whole.

Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie

This talented actor was first diagnosed BPD in the late 1990s and has since been getting treatment for it. She is seen as one of the most well-known advocates of mental health wellness and awareness. When stars of her calibre talk about mental health it really does give weight to mental health awareness as a whole.

Diana, Princess of Wales

Diana, Princess of Wales

This is another well-known person who suffered from all the signs of BPD but never got officially diagnosed. From her eating disorders to her bouts of deep depression she was the perfect face to promote mental health awareness that thankfully her sons are now doing instead of her.

Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan

There is sadly people reading this who won’t know who this is, but she famously descended into chaos when she hit puberty while still in the limelight of the public eye. She shows all the signs of BPD and while she was never officially diagnosed with BPD, but showed all the classic signs of it which explains all her self-destructive behaviours.

Megan Fox

Megan Fox

This famous American actress and model began her acting career in 2001. She is one of the few big name celebrities who has openly said she shows all the signs of Borderline Personality Disorder. From her Emotional Dysregulation to her Self-Shame and Impulsivity.

Charlie Sheen

Charlie Sheen

Once again, this star has never been tested or diagnosed with BPD, but certainly and rather famously shows all the signs of it. His Hypo-mania could also be a sign of Bipolar but until he feels ready to get the help he needs and a proper diagnosis I guess we will never know.

Robin Williams

Robin Williams

This very talented American actor and comedian was once considered one of the funniest men in the world of stand-up comedy, but he was in a heavy battle with his own mind showing clear signs of BPD until he sadly lost the battle in August 2014. Of all the famous people and stars lost on this list, he was the one people mourned the most.

Pete Davidson

Pete Davidson

He might be mostly known for his short love life with Ariana Grande, but he is also a talented American comedian and actor who was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder just a few years ago. He openly talks about his own mental health issues and regularly talks to fans about their own struggles. Truly an advocate for mental health awareness for today’s generation.
