Tarte's Brow Architect Brow Shaper - An Excellent New Brow Pencil!

By Makeupguineapig @MakeUpGuineaPig

A while ago, Tarte offered the Journey to Natural Beauty set on QVC that included my new favorite brow pencil! It is called the Brow Architect Brow Shaper and it makes filling in brows so quick and easy. I absolutely hate doing my eyebrows, but it really does frame your face to have a nicely groomed brow. Now with the Tarte Brow Architect, I don’t mind filling in my brows!

Like most of us, I was not blessed with perfect brows. They are very sparse and pretty thin. In general, if I don’t fill them in with something, they are hardly noticeable. For years I had glasses which helped hide my faint little brows, but after having lasik eye surgery, I no longer had the frames to disguise my non-existent brows. I tried pencils and powders, but always found it to be a huge pain to add that extra little step when rushing out the door. Not to mention, finding the right shade that didn’t make me look like a crazed axe murderer wasn’t always easy either. Enter the Tarte Brow Architect!!! J

My Sad, Bare Brow

Tarte’s Brow Architect is a rather unusual pencil. For one, it is kind of a 3-in-one because it not only includes the pencil, but it has a spoolie (crucial in my opinion) and a brightening powder that helps give brows the look of a lift. All of this is literally contained within the single long, skinny pencil package! You have everything you need in one compact little stick!

That’s not the only reason doing my brows has become less of a chore. The pencil portion of the Brow Architect is also rather ingenious. Never have I seen a similarly shaped brow pencil…or any pencil, really. The pencil is triangular – not the casing, but the actual product itself. Initially I thought this might be difficult to figure out, or the shape would quickly disappear after a few uses, but it works brilliantly!
Since it is triangular, there is a wide end and a tapered end – duh, right? J This makes so much sense in a brow pencil though! You can easily turn the pencil to the wider side to fill in the front, or thicker, portions of your brows. Then, from the arch outward, I turn the pencil to the tapered end to get a thinner, more precise line. It’s almost like having two pencils in one! I’ll also use the thinner edge to line around my brows to get the general shape and fill in thicker areas with the wide side of the triangle. The option of changing the thickness of the pencil without having to have an entirely separate pencil is part of what makes it so quick and easy to use. Works like a dream! J

I find that the color of the pencil is just right for my brows as well. It’s not too dark, but it’s also not so light that I have to sit there for hours to make the color show up! With the added spoolie at the opposite end, it’s very easy to make a nice, natural brow by gently brushing through the brows after applying the pencil. This helps to soften and blend the pencil, and I feel like it helps set it for maximum lasting power too! This pencil hasn’t given me any trouble in terms of lasting all day either. It is infused with Amazonian clay, which helps to absorb oil and keep the pencil where you put it until you’re ready to take it off!
I find myself skipping the powder sometimes, but notice that it makes quite a difference when I remember it. The powder is intended to match your skin tone and is placed just below the brows, much like a highlighter. It has no shimmer or glitter, but somehow still manages to “lift” brows subtly and completely naturally. You don’t even see the powder, but it really does make a difference! The powder just adds a more polished and lifted appearance without making it look like there’s anything unnatural going on with your brows. To use it, you simply unscrew the casing to reveal a sponge tip applicator already coated with the perfect amount of “lifting” powder.  Tap it underneath your brows and you’re ready to go! You can blend the powder a bit by running the spoolie through already penciled brows as well. Definitely worth the extra step – and it really only takes a few seconds!

I really love the Tarte Brow Architect Brow Shaper and would definitely recommend giving this unique skinny stick a try! The triangle shape really does make filling in one’s brows less of a chore. And the shape, though it “evolves” a bit, does not lose its effectiveness as you use the pencil. The edges dull a tiny bit, but it still works as well as on day one! The extra 5 seconds it takes to add the brightener is well worth your time as well!

Brows After Using Tarte's Brow Architect Brow Shaper

I believe that the Tarte Brow Architect Brow Shaper is currently only available in the Journey to Natural Beauty set sold exclusively through QVC. I believe it is intended for individual sale at some point, but until then it is exclusive to this set. Unfortunately, I no longer see the set on QVC’s website so keep an eye out for the Brow Architect Brow Shaper to be released individually from Tarte! It’s one of the best brow pencils that I’ve tried! J
