Taking Recycling to a Crafty Level

By Crossstitchyourheart @TMNienaber

I’m not sure what it is but recently I’ve been getting into more and more magazines.  Maybe it has something to do with the satisfaction of finishing a magazine a lot quicker than a book so I feel accomplished, or maybe I really am just trying to expand my horizons and learn all sorts of new things through articles.  Whatever the reason, I’ve been collecting more magazines than usual.  With my Cross Stitch Collection it was a lot easier to know what to do when I was finished reading it, with so many patterns to pull out and save there wasn’t much of a magazine left and I didn’t feel guilty about throwing the rest in the recycle bin.  My other magazines are a little different, I read them cover to cover and then recycle them, maybe saving a picture or article or recipe but that’s about it.  I’d toss away an almost full magazine and being the crafty person I am I want to do something with them instead.

So here’s what I came up with.  A wallpaper magazine collage. The walls in my dorm are very white, plan, and empty, so I thought I’d start cheering them up by working my collage for the rest of the semester and then when I move out this year I’ll carry it back home and continue in my room (I have some empty closest doors that could use some cheering up).  Here’s what I’ve got so far:

It’s a pretty small space of wall that’s covered, but I figure if I keep this up for a while I’ll have a nice and colorful wall.  I love the giant cake-pop cut out, it makes me happy to stare at it.  Although it also makes me crave cake-pops.

And of course, here’s an update of my big cross stitch project.  It’s stitching a lot quicker than I expected it to so I’m hoping to keep with getting it done by early May.  We’ll see how it goes though, things could change.  I’m happy with it so far.  It’s hard to tell that what is finished is the street and the light from the streetlamps, but if you think about what it’ll look like when it’s finished I love the details already.  Still a lot to get done, but it’s coming together nicely.

And I also started playing with Picasa on my computer (the fee Google picture editor) so I’ve been playing with my pictures to make them look fancy.  Not that I’ve done a whole lot with these three (although I do like the borders) but we’ll see what I can play with in the future.  I enjoy knowing I have options.  Happy middle of the week to you all!  Hope you have time to do something crafty this week.
