Are you wondering what is Swine influenza (also known as Swine flu or New flu)? Why is swine flu affecting humans? How to get protected from the virus?
I guess no doctor will advise you against vaccination, but that doesn't mean you should do it without giving it a second thought. It is definitely worth checking if you fall into one of at-risk groups (see below).
It is recommended you have a flu jab if you:
- are 65 or over,
- are pregnant,
- have a serious medical condition,
- live in a residential or nursing home,
- are the main carer for an elderly or disabled person whose welfare may be at risk if you fall ill,
- are a healthcare or social care professional directly involved in patient care,
- work with poultry.
Some of these higher risk groups do also qualify for a free vaccination. Consult your family doctor for details.
