“Successful on LCHF Without a Gallbladder?”

By Dietdoctor @DietDoctor1

Can you eat low-carb if you've had your gallbladder removed? What are Andreas thoughts on a study claiming no one should be doing a keto diet? What can you do if you're feeling tired on a keto diet? And what are the best tips to lose weight on a keto diet?

Get the answers in this week's Q&A with Dr. Andreas Eenfeldt:

Gallbladder removed

I have had my gallbladder removed several years ago - will this prevent me from being successful on LCHF?

Jackie

Most likely not, many people do LCHF successfully without, in my experience, it's usually not a major issue.

What is your response to Dr. Kim Allan's statements about increased mortality rate on keto?

Here is the link to the article: 'No one should be doing keto diet' says leading cardiologist

Thanks!

Tori

I think that's simply wrong. There are certainly no randomized controlled trials showing an increase in mortality on keto. These trials are basically too small and short to show or prove anything like that, that unless the effect was huge (orders of magnitude larger than the number he mentions). To my knowledge there are not even trends in that direction.

I guess the article is really referring to observational trials, but if so just about nobody is doing keto in them, and there's no way to prove cause and effect with such studies anyway.

The author seems misinformed, unfortunately.

Three weeks on keto and so tired

Hello,

I have been doing Keto for three weeks now and I am down 5 lbs (2 kg). All of a sudden I'm feeling really fatigued. I am in ketosis always in the moderate range, never higher. I have also done intermittent fasting. Nothing is helping the scale move quicker and the fatigue. Help?

Allison

Fatigue: try to add more salt and water. E.g. a cup of bouillon 1-2 times per day.

Can't attain ketosis or weight loss

I am beyond frustrated! I followed the 2-week plan and am in 4th week on the program. I am showing the symptoms of ketosis, but can't ever get past moderate range and am not losing weight. I am 71 years old. I am tracking everything on MyFitessPal so know I am fairly close to macros every day. I am also extremely constipated. Please help.
