When many people get into a successful drug regimen for whatever condition they have (mental, physical, or whatnot), when the regimen gets tinkered with, many patients don’t react very well. This is especially true for mental health patients as some need their medication so they can function on a day-to-day basis. Sounds like me.
Right now, I am dealing with the absence of two of my medications: Wellbutrin and the birth control pill. Wellbutrin is an anti-depressant that not only makes me cheery, but it also helps me wake up in the morning. Obviously, the birth control pill is… well, the pill. I don’t even remember the type I take, not like that’s important in this discussion.
Anyway, the pill is VERY important for me. I use it, with my doctor’s knowledge, to suppress my period. When taken correctly, I NEVER get my period, which is a very good thing. Having your “monthly visitor” is a terror, especially if you have BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder) like I do. The drop in hormone is killer and I end up making everyone else’s life a miserable hell. My moods aren’t consistent, I cry at the push of a button, and moreover, I also have a small nervous breakdown almost EVERY TIME I get my period. So yeah, for me, suppressing my monthly cycles isn’t a bad idea.
Without these medications, I have been going through withdrawal for the past three days. One day, for example, I stayed in my pajamas the entire day, which is something I typically don’t do very often these days. Another day, I spent a majority of it crying my eyes out. Things, at times, have seemed empty and hopeless. I know everything will be better once my little package filled with pills comes in the mail, but until then, I have to try my best to stay chill.
Question: If you’re on medication, have you ever had experience similar to this? Do you act or feel different when you don’t have all your medications? If so, tell me about it in the “comments” section. I want to hear what YOU have to say.
