Smoothies for Breakfast

By Beautybykaris @beautybykaris

Hey There,

A few weeks ago, (Back in February), I came unwell from what appeared to be a head cold, sore throat and everything else virus. Now I don’t normally get ill, (I say that lightly), I generally eat relatively healthy and get my exercise in (On and off), but after falling ill to sinusitis just before Christmas, and having this awful energy draining bug in February, I decided to up my (Food) Vitamin intake and detox the crap out of me, (Excuse my language).

I’ve never been one to turn my face away from vegetables, (Unless we are talking sprouts of course), I tend to have them every evening, and I even take Vitamin supplements in the morning. But I felt it was time to up it, and my one piece of fruit a day probably wasn’t really cutting it. With this idea in place, along with some weight loss goals in mind, (I just want to fit back in to my size 10 wardrobe), and after catching up with a friend in Wales, (Who always motivates me to be healthy), I decided to swap my usual porridge breakfast to a smoothie, (My friends the smoothie drinker who put this idea in my head)… And that’s when I jumped on the smoothie wagon.

I started introducing smoothies in to my diet about two weeks ago, and the difference in how I feel is unbelievable (Lets hope I am not speaking to soon). Yeah OK, for the first week I was still recovering from my illness, so I was still pigging out and completely worn out. But this week, has been the week I have noticed the biggest difference, don’t get me wrong, Monday and Tuesday of this week was hard, (This was when the over indulgent eating stopped), but as my body has adjusted to the smaller intake and the fruit, I have suddenly felt more energetic.

Now I’m not too adventurous with my smoothies, I have started quite simple with my main ingredients being:

200ml Almond milk

One chopped banana

Two handfuls of frozen fruit.

(I figured you couldn’t go to wrong with these ingredients)

Mixed berries has to be my favorite smoothie at the moment, I have tried strawberries alone with the banana and it just wasn’t what I expected, (I probably picked up a rubbish pack of strawberries). Yesterday I mixed the remaining strawberries with the banana and mango pieces, and today I stuck to just mango and banana, which is now my second favourite, (It tastes so summery, if you know what I mean).

I have been looking up some slightly crazy smoothie recipes, (And a friend in work has been sending me ones she finds), but I am still a bit reluctant to add any greens, (I am worried they will ruin the taste). Having said that a recipe on Pinterest using frozen raspberries, blackberries and spinach, doesn’t sound to bad, so maybe I will start with that one. Other recipes include oats, nuts, yoghurt and all sorts, smoothie making is literally endless. I have also noticed some pudding inspired smoothies, (The strawberry cheesecake for example).

At the moment I only have my smoothie for breakfast, and am now trying to make sure I have some veg at lunch and dinner, (Vitamin overload). I will be keeping regular post updates on my eating habits, fitness routine, smoothie making and hopefully weight loss.

I would love some more recipes, if you have tried any you would recommend?
