Smartfit Pilates Singapore

By Ireviewuread

The older we get, the more we need to deliberately make time to exercise. I touched on how I only do yoga as my form of exercise but it's time for me to expand to pilates fitness. The question now is Pilates vs Yoga, what's the difference? The short answer is, Yoga is more about flexibility and Pilates is more about strength. This was not the first time I attended a Pilates class. In fact, I attended one when I was creating my gym adventures series 6 years. ago. I did not remember much about it aside from being in a class of 30, regretting my decisions. Now that that series is archive, it's time to try out something new like SmartFit Pilates.

Design of Smartfit Pilates

The studio is designed by award-winning interior design firm Asylum. The firm has won over 100 international awards, including 'Design of the Year 2018' for their work on The Warehouse Hotel.

The luxurious interior design focus on the principles of Pilates. The sleek lighting features radiates the energy across the space, while the gentle curves in the furniture represents the strong curvatures of one's body. The earthy hues that spreads throughout the reception area to the studio to the café gives clients a warm and welcoming vibe.

Pilates Reformer Group Class

Group classes will be limited to 5 clients per class so that the instructors can focus more on the clients. The classes range from the classic Reformer to the Yoga-Inspired Reformer or more active options like Reformer HIIT and Reformer TRX.

Aside from the pilates Reformer classes, SmartFit also offers Mat Pilates and Cadillac classes for one-on-one session. Clients are also able to experience small group wellness workshops and retreats, from meditation to nutrition here.

Cadillac Machine

The Cadillac machine is only available for 1-on-1 classes since there is only one Cadillac machine available. This area is also used for the posture assessment by their professional instructors.

Posture Assessment

The posture assessment lasted for 10 to 15 minutes as the instructor determine what is wrong with your posture. Most of us have a text-neck and that affects our posture and causes us constant pain. With Pilates, we are able to correct our posture and reduce the pain in our everyday life.

Guilt-free snacks available at Necessary Provisions

Necessary Provisions created a vegetarian menu that includes homemade granola bar, banana cake, brownie and various scones. These baked goodies are a delight to one's tastebuds. The banana cake was evenly baked and packed with fresh bananas while the brownie was a chocolatey delight. They had a variety of scones available from potato and rosemary scones - that gives off a woodsy and peppery flavour - to cheese and chives - that is a favourite among cheese lovers.

Aside from the bite sized baked goods, Necessary Provisions had other dishes like baguette and salads as well. The top of the crunchy baguette was layered with lots of cheese that gives the slight 'cheese-pull' effect if you bite into it. The sour pickle on the top goes well with the savoury mushroom and cheese in the baquette sandwich.

The salad was made with three kinds of leafy vegetables and drizzled with thyme infused vinaigrette dressing. It was a wonderfully healthy and aromatic choice to have after a class.

The last two dishes I tasted off their menu was the fusion french toast with banana and tamagoyaki; and their pandan cake. The french toast is a favourite of the director of SmartFit, Li Jun. As a sweet tooth myself, I can understand why. The French toast with banana and tamagoyaki was drizzled with maple butter, a fusion that will be much appreciated by the clients that love sweet stuff.

On the other hand, the pandan cake had a fragrant pandan scent to it. You are able to feel the softness of the chiffon cake embracing your tongue the moment you bite into it.

With that, stay fit, eat healthy and check out this new must-visit social wellness spot at the ground floor of Tanglin Place.
