Slumbercloud: SLC

Hard-hitting post-rockers Slumbercloud named their first full-length SLC, which stands for straight-line capacitance, a method to store an electric charge. Now down to a trio they needed to find a new way to unleash all that energy that made their debut EP Human Problem such an intense listening experience. They do so by not hitting the ground running, but by building up momentum and let rip, just as the audience might be getting a bit restless.

Lead singer Paddy Moran grew up in Seattle, so it is no wonder that grunge is part of the equation, albeit in a very twisted guise. It all comes together in the sprawling Trust In Me, wherein the trio goes through hills and valleys, touching base with math rock, straight up metal, funk, noise, and a few other diversions that have not been named yet. The lyrics mention that the unnamed war is lost, but musically it has winner written all over it. SLC is step up from an already impressive debut. It will be hard for them to top this one, but with their love for adventurous risk taking they will figure it out.
