Sleep Better – Tips for Beating Jet Lag:

Beauty treats:

Peppermint, orange, lemon etc. are some ingredients that can make your senses come alive and lift up your mind. So, if you suffer from insomnia, avoid beauty products that contain such ingredients. Instead, you may use sandalwood aromatic beauty products, aloe vera gels, creams containing neem, cucumber pastes and orchid night creams. These help in providing relaxation to your senses and thus enable you to sleep peacefully.

Caffeine drinks:

When you have to stay up for a long time at night to complete your project, you often take black tea or coffee. This will prevent sleep and you will be able to work properly. But during other days, you must avoid tea, coffee, fizzy drinks, chocolates etc before your bed time. These products make you energetic and ward off sleep.

Eradication of sleep killers:

Light, even if it is a slight spark, can prevent you from sleeping. So, do not put any products that give out light in your bedroom. This way you will be able to relax and sleep. If it is not possible to avoid putting such items in your bedroom, then buy blackout eye pads from the market and put it over your eyes when you go to sleep. This will cut off all lights that may reach your eye and thus you will feel drowsy and be able to sleep. Try not to put LCD display alarm clocks in your bedroom. Put alarm clocks that do not produce and noise or emit any light, which will screech only at the time you have set it to do so. If you have a fixed time for going to bed, it is all the better for you. You will start feeling drowsy at the same time every day. So, if you are suffering from insomnia, go to bed at the same time very night. Before you go to sleep, switch off your cell phone. This will avoid pings and vibrations and keeps you undisturbed when you sleep.

Another thing to remember is that you must go to sleep only when you feel sleepy and never before that. Do not make it a habit to read in bed. If you do not feel sleepy and want to read a book, then sit comfortably on a couch and read the book till you feel sleepy. Use bed only for sleeping. This will train your brain to sleep when you see the bed.

Food:

Food has an important part in completing your sleep cycle. So, have healthy food and eat it on time. This will allow the body to digest the food properly and make you ready to sleep. You will be able to sleep on time without any effort if your digestive system is healthy and clean. Make it a habit to have your dinner at 8 pm so that you can sleep after two hours of having your dinner. Try to have a light dinner, including salads, soups, sandwiches and so on. Do not consume rice, spicy vegetable dishes and gravies, meat, oily food etc for dinner because your digestive system will not be able to digest such foods on time and this can cause stomach upsets or disruptions when you sleep. So, the healthier your food is, the better will be your sleep.

Physical activity:

Physical activity helps in providing a good sleep. So, make sure that there is enough physical activity in your daily schedule to tire your body, but not get overtired. When your body is tired, you will feel the need to sleep. But if your body is over tired, it will provide you sleepless night. So, do enough physical activity to get a good and peaceful sleep. Do not overdo it.

See what you watch and hear:

Most of the youngsters love to watch action movies, loud and heavy music and horror films when they reach home after spending a tiresome day at work. This is not good for you. Avoid such habits. These loud sounds only help in enhancing your stress levels. Instead, you can put on your night light and put some light and soothing music that will help you relax your mind. Watch comedy flicks or a family oriented serial at night before you go to sleep. This will help you to have a deep and peaceful sleep.
