I have never made these bars before. I am not sure why I haven’t. I joined the #chocolateparty where the theme is coconut. I googled chocolate and coconut and this is what I came up with. The hubster said his mom made these all the time during Christmas. I think I must have had a deprived childhood because I don’t remember my mom making anything like this. I decided to bring these bars to a church function. I didn’t wait until they were completely cooled because they had to be individually wrapped for this function. I had a taste of the crumbs left over and one of the bars that just wouldn’t hold together. It was really good, if only I had refrigerated them before I cut them. Overall, I would make them again, but I would not procrastinate. I would let them cool and store them in the refrigerator until they were hard enough to cut.
Seven Layer Bars
adapted from Allrecipes.com
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 (14 oz can) sweetend condensed milk
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup butterscotch flavored chips
1 1/3 cup flaked coconut
1 cup chopped nuts (I used pecans)
Directions:
Set your oven to 350 degrees. In a small bowl combine the graham cracker and butter. Press the crumbs firmly into the bottom of the pan.
Pour the sweetened condensed milk over the graham cracker crumbs. Sprinkle with the chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, coconut and nuts.
Bake for 25 minutes or until lightly browned. Cut into bars and serve.
